PR5 repair question....

yeah, I'm a poor college student and i was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what a new front clip or something to that effect might cost for a protege5. I definitely don't have enough money to buy one new but after this summer i might have enough to buy a wrecked and repair it.

first a question...

What do you mean by a "front clip"? Do you mean everything from the windshield forward, which is the traditional definition? Or do you mean the front facia (bumper) piece?
Since the P5 is realatively new, recyclers (junk yards) may not have a full front clip to sell or find. Price will vary with availability and you will need to call around to the yards in your area to see. Front facias may only be available from the dealer due to the newness and relatively low volumn of P5s out there. The aftermarket probably hasn't gotten into making that piece yet and given the fit quality of some aftermarket body pieces I've seen, I'd be leary of them anyway. Jim

I agree

I think 90% of the kids you read about here who got into a wreck with their new P5's have run into something that either wasn't moving, or was moving considerably slower than they were.

Finding a totaled P5 with a good front end will be next to impossible (and if such a bird DID exist, some recycler would put that front end onto another of his wrecks, and sell a "complete" car)

If you're looking into buying a wreck, I'd think you'll have to look to NEW parts to get it one the road.

yeah i'm thinkin i probably will need new parts. and sory if i wasn't clear on front clip i just meant the sheetmetal forward of the doors. there's a couple pr5's online right now that would require only this. i sorta posted hoping one of the mazda techs that are roaming this board would ahve a link or something i could get a quote on or something. i guess i'l divulge my secret site now that i have all this attention.....
here' a flood damaged for 9,800

and here's a front and rear damage that would need probably too much work for the cost

i dunno. my problem with that one is that it is a flood damaged car with the tiptronic tranny. first off, i wana a manual, and second off i am wary of any flood damaged vehicle with an electronic transmission.
third, i won't have the cash until after this summer....
