potential 5 owner newbie

Hi everyone. My name is Dustin and I live in Monterey, CA. I currently drive a 1994 Geo Prizm but have recently started to do some real research on the mazda5. I like what I see so far!

So I found a local 2007 GT for sale and am very interested in it. It is still under factory warranty. However, the owner is in the military and purchased it in Virginia and had it shipped to Spain shortly after. It has been shipped back here to California.

I am wondering if this would void the warranty at all. I don't think he has the service records from Spain and I doubt they were done at a dealership.

Also, if he no longer has the warranty manual, can I still transfer the warranty with a subsequent ownership notification?

Thank you for your time. I'd really like to purchase this car but having the warranty would make me feel a lot better. Thanks and I look forward to being here!

Cheers!

Just to be clear, you have physically seen this Mazda5, right? If you haven't seen it and can't see it by, say, tomorrow -- it's a scam. Military, oversees vehicle, etc - all red flags.

But say it really is in your neck of the woods and you have test driven it - with regard to the warranty issue you *may* have to docuent that all of the service work was done. Depends on what the problem is.

Yes...scam!!! Especially if they say the money will be held by a third party until the car has been delivered...oh and shipping is free.

...but as sea_munky says, if you have seen the car and driven it, then you are probably fine.

Re-reading my post, it sure sounds like a scam in my description, doesn't it? Thanks for your concerns. I've seen the vehicle. The owner lives in town and teaches at the defense language institute. He has european plates on it right now and is currently registering it in California.

I wonder if shipping it out of state shows up on Carfax or anything? There's only 3 notices on the carfax report. I haven't read them yet cuz I don't want to pay $20 to read 1) car shipper to dealer 2) new owner purchased 3) car registered.

I was just hoping if someone had a warranty manual if they could check if there's any stipulations that say the car must stay in the US. They can't require you to do all maintenance service at a Mazda dealership, can they?

thanks

just call the local mazda dealer with the vin and see if there are any records on it and if its still under warranty.
