post recall acceleration from stop too abrupt

Just wondering if anyone else has had to "baby" depressing the gas pedal from a stop since the exhaust recall ECU reflash. I'll admit I drive the 5 maybe 1-2X a week but I find it annoying that I have to concentrate so much on the gas pedal each time I start off so as not to jack-rabbit the car.

It feels like press...press...press...press...then WHAM the throttle opens.

Do you think the dealer can "turn down" the sensitivity of this fly-by-wire
setup to achieve a smoother acceleration when starting from a stop?

I had similar issue with my Mazda3. The gas pedal was very sensitive. I think it's a Mazda thing.

Yes, definitely, the gas pedal is overly prone to jack rabbit starting. I constantly have to be conscious about accelerating off each stop or my passengers heads jerk back. Funny enough, I topped off the oil level with mopar 5W-20, about 1/2 quart, and it seems to have eased the problem a bit.

i have the same problem with a brand new Mazda5 2009 ! I'm gona call the dealer to ask.

I think I only experience this when the engine is cold as it activates something in the airbox / injector as explained to me by one of the tech. You get too much torque (almost uncontrollable when wheel is turned) when right off start (cold) but normal when engine gets hot. This is what we alway hear when starting the car in the morning, a slight "thug" which is a buffle in the airbox openning up. I wonder whether our friends with CAI still hears this.

Probably the swirl and tumble butterflies. Helps combustion under cold engine conditions.

My guess is the fly-by-wire. Computer is having a hard time immitating
the function of the cable that used to connect the pedal to the throttle
valve.

To do this, computer has to get this information:
-- 1. The amount of travel the gas pedal has been pressed. There is a potentionmeter.. sort of like the volume control on the old radios.

-- 2. Then there is another switch to validate that there is a foot
on top of the pedal. In case the 'volume control' malfunctions
you don't want the engine revving by itself.

Early production 2006. It was much smoother before the exhaust recall. The difference was immediately noticable when we got the car back from the dealer.

I thought the Mazda 3 VVT had an issue with the intake manifold flaps...maybe this is happening with the Mazda 5 same intake..JMO

the protege5 had problems with that... i did not know about any others.

you can do a google search for 'throttle body' ground. Some people are grounding their throttle body.. supposed to make the MAZDA5 accelerate from stop, like the ordinary car.
