It is really funny to read some post and people using the term JDM incorrectly. I don't like to be negative but please, if you're going to use the term JDM in your post, make sure you're using it correctly. It really sucks to click on a post regarding something JDM when it really isn't.

So what do the letters "JDM" stand for? I always just figured it was about "made in japan" or "J-spec", but I don't know the terminology.

JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. Lets say for example purposes. The DC2 Integra in Japan has a different front end than the ones we have here in the U.S. Those doing the front end conversion would have a JDM Integra Front end. In our case for our cars, something JDM would be like the Familia Sport 20 badges or anything the Japanese version would have that the U.S. version vehicles. Now using the term like "JDM Carbon Fiber Hood" is stupid because the manufacturer never made a carbon fiber hood.

yep when i refer to JDM it refers to OEM stuff by factory. Body stuff, interior stuff, engine stuff, etc...that were only available on japanese cars.

so techinically if you buy a cell phone holder or soemthing made in japan it is available in the japanese domestic market but it would be weird to label any japan mae thigns for your car jdm

This goes for aftermarket parts as well. I don't like when people say stuff is JDM that is made by the likes of Buddy Club or Spoon. Big deal where it's made. That would mean my TV at home is JDM because it's a sony. Let's all use some sense

good point, but if you have an autoexe kit on your car, wouldnt that make it a jdm kit since u can only get it in japan? unlike sony, it is sold in the usa, but autoexe is only made and sold in japan. so isnt that "true" jdm? make sense? - chris

WTF are you people smoking ? If its made in Japan, and only sold in Japan, its JDM. It dont matter if its OEM or Aftermarket. If you get it grey market here, its frikin JDM.

JDM is a term geared towards the automotive scene. Not towards TV's, VCR's, or Camcorder's. Jsut deal with that fact. I agree that people do throw the term around too much, but damn, learn what it really means before you start to (flame) cause it just turns on you, and someone like me (flame) 's U. (bird)

**good point too bossisgood, but when all this JDM fad started back in 97 with the Hondas, it originally only referred to OEM parts. I'm from the old school, so JDM items and grey market items are two different categories to me. :)

Aye, I see your point, I must correct myself and apologize for the flame. Its all in how you, the individual, perseve the scene and term. :D

It's all good my man :) Just trying to bring this whole import thing to how it was back in the days. I may be 27 but I still have a soft spot for this culture. I've seen it grow from when I was in junior high back in 86 and saw my cousins street racing 1st gen RX-7's and AE86 Corollas, and it really saddens my to see how the mainstream (The Fast and The Furious Bull Sh--) has turned it in to such a clown show. I actually went European (had an 01 Audi A4 that I traded in for the P5), but there's something about Japanese cars that keeps bringing me back. The P5 is actually my daily driver, and I'm in the process of finding and eventually building an AE86. :)

I just think its fackin funny how ridiculously anal you guys are....just relax man! its three freakin letters!

haha KzA, good point, but thanks guys for clearing up everything - chris
