I'm bored out of my mind right now...so im going to do this today. Now, I know i lossen the lugs, then jack up, then fully remove the lugs and wheel. I know how to paint the stuff and everything (how-to), but i dont know how to clean it before i paint. what items do i need to clean the hubs and calipers?

when i do put the wheels back on, how much torque should i put in the lugs? i dont have a torque wrench or anything...so please put it in other terms, thanks for your help everyone.

you want it snug, so this |____________| tight, or if you have some idea of how hard it was to get the lugs off you can put it back the same way

Buy some brake cleaner. Use it, and then sand.

The G2 kit comes with some cleaner.

I'm letting my last caliper dry now. I've used brake cleaner, 80grit sand paper, and a wire brush. I didn't do to much prep work since I spent nearly a day trying to get my wheels off in the first place. The front two came off like a charm, but the rear wheels omg, lets say painting my calipers have taken nearly a week and a half since I had to WD40 the lugs and the insides of the rotors. Next time I buy a new car, every bolt on the car will be loosened up and retighted once a month so that the evil rust will not take me again for days.

I am painting mine tomorrow after work got all my tools ready.....What color BlueWolfCry??

after I snapped 2 studs and stripped a third (same time, same wheel, at an autox) I did something very useful. I cleaned all the studs with a wire brush (actually a batt term cleaner - only thing I had on hand) and applied a liberal ammount of anti-sieze to each stud. That, combined with hand screwing on each lug, means even when they're TAS, they still come right off (though the 18" breaker bar I use helps too) Personally, I don't want to have to take them off agian till I paint my calipers.

yeh, im gonna get all my stuff in the morning. im doing semi-gloss black hubs and calipers. i don't want front red calipers only, nor do i want red brake drums in the rear, so black will work for me. i'm getting gunmetal rims anyways, so it fits the theme.

sounds like a huge pain in the ass...so when i'm putting the lugs back on, should i apply some anti-seize fluid?

i'm not really clear on the complete process...are you ppl jacking up the whole car at once -or-

1) jack front
2) remove wheel
3) paint
4) let dry
couple hours later...
5)put wheel back on
6) repeat except rear this time

?

depends on the paint. the g2 has a hardener, so it only lasts like 4 hrs, so you do all at once. if doing spray on stuff, one wheel at a time works

and yes it was a pain, but not as much as having to put in the new studs. anti-seize is more of a paste, comes in squeeze tubes or vats, just smear it on with finger. not required, but helps alot.

I just painted mine just now, letting the paint dry.. I only did the front becuz I have drums in the back and I don't like a big red drum.... but thats me...I painted the fronts red ..I used the G2 system very nice and easy..will have pics tomorrow...

ONly did the front..here is a pic...**I know there is rust on the rotor.. I am replacing them soon**

Could be a dumb question, but why do you have to loosen them before jacking it up.

the car is less stable when you try to loosen the lugs while its jacked up. if they are on tight and you jack it up, the force of trying to loosen them could knock the car off the jack.

The reason I "loosen" the lugs on the floor is becuz when you have the car in the air it is a fight to loosen them with the wheel spinning on u ..unless u have an Impact gun then go to town...also when in the air after you put the wheels back on first put the lugs on by hand and spin them on all four/five then take ur tool and tighten them alittle and drop the car on the floor torque them down and drive the car around the block and check again just to make sure

Hollywood (eek2)

did them yesterday. painted the drums, discs, and hubs all gloss black. looks sweet imo. that looks good hollywood. thanks everyone for your inputs.

Yo man if u want to clean them before u do it u use brake cleaner and if u have aluminum wheels u torQ them to 100....but u dont have a torQ wrench so0o0o0o idk what to tell u
