Painting an intercooler

Just curious if anyone has experience painting an intercooler? I've read some posts on other forums and haven't came up with any concrete information. I'm considering painting "MAZDASPEED" on my front mount. I would make a cardboard cutout and use krylon high heat red radiator spray paint. I also thought that it would look pimp to outline the red lettering in black or just using rust-oleum reflective finish red spray paint.

Is reflective spray paint illegal on cars? Could a reflective paint affect performance more than a krylon radiator spray paint? Any pointers would be appreciated.

A reflective paint wouldn't change the performance.. at all.. not in the slightest. Red though? if it's for a FMIC I'd call rice, but for a top mount you only see it when the hood is open :)

Ehh....I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I personally wouldn't consider painted calipers or a decal here or there rice. My car is visually stock right now, I just want to add a little flare. Red calipers and "mazdaspeed" painted on the FMIC, I would not consider rice.

If it were an economy car I wouldn't consider it too over the top, but on a car that is downright classy like the MS6.. dunno if I would bother. I did the red calipers thing when I was 18, but I'm over that now :P I do gloss black or dark silver :)

you got it brotha. I'll even have a cardboard cutout I can give ya if you want to do it yourself. (And maybe even left over paint) WHO DA MAN?! HAPPY EASTER N STUFF! WHOO HOOO!

I agree. I definitely think it would give the car some flare, hell I would do that if I had experience with painting.

im glad that you have a front mount to paint...i can't find a front mount that has been released for this car yet. Do you have a link. I cant wait much longer for CPe's release

I would wait for CP-Es... so it'll be scientifically tested and dyno proven, not the performance loss than some hacked together system can easily be.

Agreed. CPE shouldn't be too much longer on their front mount. I'm pretty sure the manufacturing/testing/tweaking phase is complete. I think all they have to do is dyno their test car and then start the tedious welding and physical part of putting the intercoolers together. I think we'll see an update on the intercooler status within a week or two. And no, to my knowledge, there are no other FMIC for the MS6 on the market. A little patience (trust me, I know how hard this is) and I think we will all get some kick @$$ results with CPE. Don't take what I say for gold though, throw Jordan @ CPE a PM and he'll be more than happy to update you on the FMIC status.
