P5 E.L Door Sill Installation

I have a set of E.L Door Sills that I am looking to install. Has anyone installed these before? Is there a recommended way to wire these up?

I have attached a diagram that came with the product.

yea thats my question to, those things are one of the hardest things to find for our car.

from what i remember, some people just wired them to the dome light so when that comes on so do they.

I wired mine to my door light... up on the roof. Can't tell you how or why, but the rarely work anymore. Not sure if its the wiring in the sills themselves or if theres a loose wire elsewhere. Oh well, they still look neat even when not lit.

So from what I am hearing, the best way is to connect the black wires to ground at the door switch, and the red wires to the map light 12vDC.

Anyone know how to gain access to the Map light/Dome light/Door light wires? Is it in the Pillars? Is there an easy way to get to it?

How about hiding the remainder of the wires?

Yep, pull off the 2 molding pieces on the B pillar and then feed the wire through the roof to the center light...just did it this weekend for footwell lamps...

^^^^^^^^^^^^I have this exact footlamp kit & used that install how-to since I couldn't read japanese on the instructions and had to do it backwards since left hand drive in US.


Damn, haven't seen or heard much about these door sills in a few years. I just went with MSP door sills because the ELs were hard to come by even back a coupla yrs ago.

Looking at this thread, does anyone know what the two wires are for in the gague cluster wiring that we need to tap into?

The Blue/Red Wire at location 1O? Is this the door switch?
The Red/Yellow Wire at location1H? Is this the Dome Light?

I had to trace the colour wires from the roof light as for me, the picture in the guide was alittle different. I cant remember which colour was the feed , I do remember testing the wires with an led to find out (lol2) (2thumbs)

I installed 3" led light stips with the instructions for the footwell lamps that where posted earlier. Works great and super easy to do. Just tap into the wire the insructions say and zip tie everything in place. Lights come on when door is open and then fades out just like the dome light. If I where to do door sills I would tap the same wires.
