2003.5. MAZDASPEED PROTEGE
CEL has popped on for these codes..i know the P0140 is for the post cat o2 sensor, anyone have any idea about the p2006 and p0660? any solutions to these, ideas/opinions are greatly needed..inspection expired last month, dont want to take it to a shop and get royally boned. would rsather know the problem and fix it myself.. thank you

From the shop manual...
DTC P0140 HO2S (rear) circuit no activity detected

DETECTION CONDITION
PCM monitors input voltage from HO2S (rear) when the following monitoring conditions are met. If input
voltage from sensor never exceed 0.55 V for 30 seconds, PCM determines that sensor circuit is not
activated.

MONITORING CONDITIONS
Drive mode 3
Following conditions are met:
Engine speed is above 1,500 rpm.
Engine coolant temperature is above 70 C {158 F}.
Diagnostic support note
This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
MIL illuminates if PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles.
PENDING CODE is available if PCM detects the above malfunction condition during first drive cycle.
FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
DTC is stored in PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
HO2S (rear) deterioration
HO2S (rear) heater malfunction
Leakage from exhaust system
Open or short to ground circuit between HO2S (rear) terminal A and PCM terminal 35
Insufficient compression
Engine malfunction

DTC P0660 VICS solenoid valve circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION
PCM monitors input voltages from VICS solenoid valve while engine running. If voltage at PCM terminal 19
remains low or high, PCM determines that VICS solenoid valve circuit has malfunction.
Diagnostic support note
This is a intermittent monitor (CCM)
PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles.
PENDING CODE is available if PCM detects the above malfunction condition during first drive cycle.
FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
DTC is stored in PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
VICS solenoid valve malfunction
Connector or terminal malfunction
Short to ground in wiring between VICS solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 19
Open circuit in wiring between main relay terminal D and VICS solenoid valve terminal A
Open circuit in wiring between VICS solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 19
Short to power circuit between VICS solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 19
PCM malfunction

I didn't find any information in the shop manual for P2006, but it appears it might be related to the VTCS flappers being stuck closed.

Based on the codes, I would replace the rear O2 sensor, replace the VICS solenoid, and remove the intake manifold to delete the VTCS flapper system. Once you have the parts, it should be only a saturday morning project.

My personal experience with a P2006 was a failed wastegate in the turbocharger housing.
This code is based on air flow in to the engine. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) expects to see a certain amount of airflow in to the engine at a certain RPM and load range and if that reading is incorrect it may think the VTCS flaps are not opening. In this case the turbo chargers are known to fail and cause this code, the waste gate binds in the housing when hot.
The P0660- **** that code. It's been there since day one and will NOT illuminate the MIL

thank you everyone for the info, greatly appreciated. taking my msp to my locak dealer w this info, hopefully it will be resolved. ill keep everyone posted! thanks again
