what about thread sealant? i got a tube of the red stuff lying around.
update: bought a BWD replacement part from autozone. the hex is 1 1/16". there is a 1 1/16" oil switch socket commonly used for GM applications. i have not installed it yet but i think any 1 1/16" deep socket should work
so i finally got the guts to try this install. i was on my back for an hour trying to get the old unit off until it started raining.
first, how do i remove the wire on the switch? i was tugging on the wire until i figured i might actually break it rather than remove it. then how do i remove the actual oil pressure sensor? an adjustable wrench doesnt have enough room to move around as sube said. i couldn't get the bolts off the intake manifold bracket, so i couldnt take that off to free up some room either.
any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks!

From what ive seen if it was bad your low oil pressure light would be on but youd have good oil pressure. But to check you unscrew it and put a manual gauge set in and check pressure. If its good then replace the sensor and see if low oil light goes out.

If your going to go to that much trouble you might as well install an oil pressure guage lol. That way instead of the dummy light you can always know if you have good pressure.
