Black Cherry Mica MS6, Born 01/06
Hi everyone, I'm new to the scene, even though I've loved Mazda's since the '88 FC3S, and when I first started learning about cars.....

I recently acquired a 2006 Black Cherry Mica Mazdaspeed6, with 4800 miles on it (owned by one guy for 25 days according to CARFAX and driven from a dealer in Arizona down to Florida). I LOVE this car...... (although I can't seem to acquire the 19 city-rated mpg, but I digress).

My name is Shayne, I'm 24, and I live in South Florida...... Fort Lauderdale area..... my gf as well owns a Mazda...... 2005 copper Mazda6, with the v6.... hatchback.....nice car, but I love my speed6.

I just have a few questions if anyone might be able to help me...... those of you with a speed6, what can you mod as far as the car and still maintain the warranty? I don't plan to go balls out and upgrade the turbo or anything, but I was thinking as far as the

1. air Intake goes....... I'm aware people are running the Mazdaspeed CAI under warranty?

2. What about exhaust? I'm told by a few people as long as it's just the exhaust BEFORE the cat. there shouldn't be a problem

3. what about an ECU? I assume that voids warranty since it's not the stock computer.

but as far as the intake and exhaust goes.......anyone running that and still able to keep the car under warranty?

I'm also interested in a turbo timer (to prolong the life of the turbo) as well as a suspension......would either of those give me any issues with warranty?

I basically don't want to do anything that voids warranty, so if it does I'll be avoiding that route until the warranty runs out..... but as far as an intake, exhaust, suspension and timer........ what's allowed?

Thanks for any input, I appreciate it!!!(cabpatch)

No, killer lies, yer nut wellcum.

Gow bak two yer cuntree.

Thanks killer......and sorry karma I have trouble understanding anything other than English......one of my few faults.

mods only void warrenties when the dealership proves the mod is causing the problem

as in

if you get a intake, and your suspension falls off then your still under warrenty

but

if you put an intake on, and you hydrolock the engine, then your not under warranty.

NCZ13 is right about what the law says. However, you will have to seek legal action if a dealership denys a claim. They don't have to "prove" anything to you...they have to prove it in court. Mazda dealerships are hit/miss whether they are picky about mods so get a feel for your dealership first. Take your car in for oil changes (let them get to know you) and talk with the service rep. Tell him you are thinking about installing a CAI and exhaust and see what he says.

Worst case scenario is that they deny a claim. If that happens, remove the mods and take your car to a different dealership. The only time things become a real issue if is you can't take your car to another dealership...for example if the car is broken down.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice guys........ yeah I don't want to do any heavy modding....just basics for now....... IE the intake and exhaust.......MAYBE the ECU if that won't void warranty..... and I appreciate what you said chuyler I'm about to go to my dealer now because I want to see if they can get ahold of some front bumper mods from japan......(2thumbs)

Well I just want to go as far as Intake, Exhaust, and ECU...... and a FMIC to get more airflow into the engine..... but as far as anything else in regards to more boost, bigger turbo, etc. etc.

I'm just going to wait until the warranty runs out before I touch all that.

(Insignificant)If you don't wanna void warranty your best best is to not do anything.

to be safe I would do what Insignificant said. Reason I'm saying if anything does happen and it's high dollar, things can change real quick unless you get that the mods are good to go "IN WRITING".

yeah i did that today.....but i suppose i'd be paying out of my ass...... but at the dealer they said if they perform the work and the mods then i can get in writing that its covered under warranty.

Hey now that's a good deal. A small price to pay for keeping everything legal. The dealer I'm working with is an @$$. I probably couldn't even install chrome fastners without voiding the warranty.

Dude that sucks.......try another dealer at least.....if you have that option.

What are you planning to do to the ECU and exhaust without voiding the warranty? Short of putting chrome tips on your exhaust (*chuckles*) there really isn't much you can do that won't raise a red flag with Mazda, and same thing goes if you touch the ECU. FMIC is a big no no in that respect also. Basic rule would be put things on your can easily remove, like an intake or piggyback.

that's what I was referring to in regards to the ECU.... I don't want to have to WIRE an ecu into the harness, I'm waiting for a piggyback/plugnplay.... as far as the exhaust you CAN switch it back to stock, all you need to do is keep your stock exhaust... ALSO as long as you don't remove the cat (like putting an aftermarket downpipe on the car) you won't void the warranty, I do have a few friends that are service technicians........ just not for mazda, but I have asked and have a written statement from the head of the service department at a mazda dealer near me.... I got it today (2thumbs) however I do not like that dealer and will be taking my car to another one.

There is also the option of having mazda or a mazda certified/endorsed mechanic/performance store doing the work and putting the mods on the car for you, while being under warranty (drinks)
