I'm really enjoying my "new to me" 2009 Mazda6i GT.
Its Dark Mahogany with beige two tone leather.
Love the car, and it completely meets my needs for a luxury car which gets great
in town economy, which is where I do 90% of my driving.

I also own a 2004 Mazda 6i, and a 1991 Miata Special Edition.
Previously, I had wonderful success with a 2004 Mazda3, a 2008 3, and a 2010 3.
My 2002 Tribute was the only Mazda that gave me a few mechanical headaches.

My 2009 GT was put into service Sep.08, so the comprehensive part of the warranty has about 8 months left on it. I'm an extremely low mileage driver, about 4k per year.
I've had great success with my wife's 6.

I can get a MAP comprehensive extension of about 36 months for $1600 from my dealer.

Any thoughts on whether I should just stay with the basic warranty (comp expires Sep.2011, p/train expires Sep.2014)?
My car has about 33,000 miles, and the records show it has only needed 1 headlight replaced, plus regular service. I'll keep the car for about 3 years, and my total mileage at that time
will amount to about 45,000 miles.

Thanks in advance for any advice ... I hate handing the dealer $1600 when I drive my cars so little.

personally, I don't worry about extended warranties. if you're looking at a cost of 1600, thats a pretty substantial chunk of change...I'm assuming based on your fuel economy statement that you've got a 2.5L, correct? If so, that engine been around for a few years, and I haven't heard any major complaints.

if it were me, I'd skip it.

oh, and your color is Black Cherry ;)

Thanks for the reply ... yes, I have the 2.5l, which is basically the same motor as my 2004 2.3l motor.
I have full powertrain for another 44 months, so I'm ok there.
The GT has a lot of little luxury items that won't be covered past Sep.2011.
Things like Bluetooth, Xenon's, pushbutton start, rainsense, etc.

I stopped by the dealer today to pick up my car after they replaced my manual lumbar switch/crank ... that's what got me
thinking about the comprehensive warranty.
I'll likely pass on the extra service, just wondering what others have done with their rides.

Re the colour, I realize they call it black cherry, but my 2009 Mazda brochure calls it Dark Mahogany.
I guess they changed the name after printing the brochures.

or maybe its just different in Canada. In the states they had Black Cherry (basically black with a hint of red) or Dark Cherry (just really dark red). My 2006 speed6 is Black Cherry, so maybe they were going to use Dark Mahogany and decided to switch back to black cherry or something. It doesn't really matter.
