Hi, I just bought a new MSP.

Fantastic car. I am coming from a WRX and while that car is faster and AWD, this mazda handles FAR better than it...

I love this car so far (only 4 hours) and i can see my love only growing.

I must say, that the only other car I can compare this to as far as capability is the Integra Type R; and due to the turbo, I like this car better. Both those cars are the most outstanding handling FWD cars in the world.

Now, on to my question... What do I upgrade first? I was thinking about joepmbc and all his other stuff; but should I Consider an ECU, exhaust et al.?

welcome to the mazda world :D small question though....why are you not driving the wrx anymore? but anyways, here's my 2 cents.

easiest stuff would be a mbc and full exhaust and intake, cai or otherwise. if you have the lag, people say that joe's fpr kit helps a lot. personally i don't have the lag (i'm knocking on wood right now). i'd say go with an intake and exhaust first.....see how far you can go on the stock boost. then turn the boost up. i was talking with shawn (chojin) and he mentioned replacing the maf with a larger one from the 626? i think that was it....i guess that's one way to avoid the "boost fuel cut". after that, just have to worry about beefing up the internals and figuring out how to control that damn fuel system and you're good to go :D

i'd like a penny for my thoughts now :D

yeah joe has alot of stuff for mazdaspeed.....perfworks has a piggy back and highboost is working on a ecu....of course spooling has the microtech....i would like 1grand for my help....:D

Welcome!!

As I tell everyone- you need to let me know what your goals are and then I/we could recommend proper upgrades to accomplish this. If you are a cheap "street racer" like me, you want bang for the buck- I did 263 WHP on race fuel with less than $1000 total in my car. Other people want "bling bling" (ricer) and do 200 whp for $5000 :). Then there are the guys who like to road race- a FMIC will be a big benefit there due to it not heatsoaking like the stocker. Let me know what you want to do and I will point you in the right direction. Be careful, a lot of people will tell you that you "need" something and it will be a total waste of $$$ for a lot of applications..

Welcome! Cool that you're coming from a 'Rex...nice...

I wish we could take the best parts out of each and create some kind of FrankenSubiSpeed...

Alright, I guess I've been up for too long.

I liked it, but it cost too much and I had already put in 42000 miles. I sold it to a friend of mine so my wife could get an SUV, but that fell through and I Was able to get another sports car.

I would like to get into solo2, road racing and cheap racing. 263 for 1000 sounds nice. Is an exhaust and intake necessary at this point? do the stockers flow enough?

If they are necessary, where can I find parts?
Sorry if I am sounding like a noob, I couldnt find enough information on search.

Sorry, My first 2 cars were subarus. I am used to this name and I use it everywhere. Its easy to remember.

I havent had the car since April, but I still use it for everything.
Plus, coming from a Mazda owner, It sounds original....

some people say an intake helps with the hesitation if you have it....also it just generally leans out the already overly rich fuel mixture. exhaust....it's a little bigger than 2"....i'd say 2.5" would be good though some people (like me :D) opt for 3" piping.

Intake helps, but it has been proven that just a K&N on the stock MAF hurts performance due to the heat from the fans. I switched back to the stock box with a drop in K&N. My FP Reduction kit helps greatly with the over rich fuel mixture and makes the car run better and more consistent.. In all honesty, a 2.5" press bent exhaust with a good muffler is all most would need on this car, however if you plan on going further with it down the road, just go right for a good 3" mandrel bent system instead of doing it twice. It is overkill, but it will give you room to grow with mods later and it won't hurt anything now.

Email me at kwiktsi@nycap.rr.com and we can discuss mods and such. I really don't like discussing things like that on the forums anymore- too many opinions and 95% of them are wrong :).. Email me privately and I will help you sort through your ideas and come up with a good combo for you.

Welcome Adam. and Welcome to the world of Mazda. :D

My hubby bought his 1st miata in lieu of a WRX because there is just something about how tight the Mazdas feel. The WRX was a bit too disconnected from the road. He now has a Pro5 and loves the way it feels. (thumb)

congrats again, and have fun!

DISCO-nnected???

HA! adam i now have your wrx. it is teh r0x0r. doesnt feel very disconnected from the tarmac. however u did a good job with the handling upgrades. All i need now are end links, r-compounds, & sti mounts & all I shall be one with the road.

btw: do u still want to trade sn's???
