Well Well Well,

I got a call today from my dealer and when I answered, there was my service rep (who is very cool I might add) and she quietly said....."Taylor, just stay in that ol' rental for now"....When I inquired "why?", she responded.....
"Well, your new valve part came in and when we installed it we needed to re-code the computer control for the car and when it would not work we contacted Mazda National and they told us to recode it to "2001" specs!!???!!" I said "you gotta be kidding me" and she said..."nope, and when we did, it completely melted down the computer brain and washed it all away...your car will not do a thing right now ...wont even start and wont crank"....

Howz that for a repair????

So when they called Mazda National again, Mazda was basically dumbfounded and said "were sending a whole new computer out today"......

What a trip!! But she told me maybe this new computer which controls everything will also take care of my erratic auto transmission!

Wish me luck everyone!

whoa... good luck. i'd rather live with the annoyance than get that to happen to me. so when the computer "melted down" and got "washed away," where in the world did it go? cause i thought our computers were our ECU's which is located in line with the throttle body. am i wrong? i'm confused. but don't mind me, it happens a lot.

You are thinking of another part...

The ECU (or computer) is typically located inside the vehicle, either up under the dash or behind the toe kick panel on one side or the other. This gets it out of the extreme heat and dirt of the engine room.
I think you are confusing it with the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS or MAF), which is inline with the throttle body. Jim

taylor5: what kind of "rental" did they lend you. I'm assuming they're lending you a car, right? When I took my car in for warranty repair (clutch chatter), they lent me a '02 626. That car sucks compared to my P5.

If it's gonna take a couple of days, I would ask to borrow a nicer car than some "ol' rental".

the rental they gave me????....oh yea, the rental...

Well the deal is,,,,

they work with 'Enterprise' and the Enterprise guy said "Mazda only pays for subcompacts".
So guess what they gave me? A 2002 "rental fleet sales only" Ford Escort.....Yep, the one they still make in Mexico and only sell to rental agencies or post offices.

Gotta tell ya' though,,,,its automatic transmission changes gears better than my P5.....go figure........ Sure hope that new computer works it out cause Mazda is not gonna touch it (the trans)unless it sets off the "check engine" light or it completely "shuts down''.....

I'll keep you all posted....As they say.....'More Later'...................
