need to find a accessory power wire...

hey all hooking up a autometer ultralite procomp boost gauge and i need to hook the red wire on the gauge to a accessory power wire that maintains a constant power supply through the ignition on position to the crank position. this is need for the gauge to work properly. any one know a source, the wire location and color would be awesome. thanks

yeah mine was to, but the radio looses power from accessory on and then to crank so it messes with the gauge readings. need to find a source that does not loose power from on to crank position in the switch.

so i need to find a switch 12v source that maintains power during engine cranking.
the auto zero function does not work properly without it and therefor does not give proper readings.

do you have a 2003 MSP? not a 2003.5? Cause hook it up to the foglight power source. thats what I have and its on when the headlight are on.

Hm... Find a wire, turn on car, make sure it has no power, turn on headlight and see if it has power, SUCCESS!
(for machancial gauge)

Find a wire, Turn on car, make sure there IS power, SUCCESS!
(for Electrical Gauge)

But the first one should be the power to the light of the gauge no matter what.

im i not explaining this right?..... or am i just stupid and not understanding?.. im trying to find a 12v source that maintains power from when you turn the ignition key to one and then to crank. most of the 12v sources i find loose power for a quick/brief moment from the on position to crank, this quick loose of power messes with the zero feature on the boost gauge causing it to not work properly.

... no i understand that... but are you reading what im telling you to do? Pick a wire, and test it! make sure it stays powering..... not that hard to do.

I would start with the wires coming from the direction from your ignition, since you want it to have power when the key is in the ignition on power.

now the wires coming from the ignition, is it the big white plastic plug underneath the dash right under the steering column? or is it the group of rapped up wires that goes way up in? hard to get to to splice..... this gauge may be more trouble than its worth

if you removed the panels and the steering column cover its a piece of cake. you pull off the piece below the column from the top, then remove it from the hinge. then theres like 2 screws for the steering column cover and a few clips that will pop off when you seperate the two halves. then tap it off one of the ignition wires.
personally, i wouldnt trust my electronics to a tap-a-fuse.

i got it guys, tapped into the ignition wire and used the fuse idea, works flawlessly. much thanks for all the info.

Go to Autozone
Look for a Bussman Add a Circuit Fuse in the headlight/fuse section. It will look like a fuse with a wire coming off it and two slots for fuses.
Buy another 10A fuse.
Open driver door.
Kneel on pavement and look near dead pedal. You will see a plastic door that says FUSE on it. Open door.
Look on back of door cover. Find the fuse for the rear windshield wiper. (which you don't have)
Unplug fuse.
Plug two fuses into the Bussman.
Plug bussman into slot previously occupied by 10a fuse for wiper.
Crimp power wire for gauge to bussman.
Replace door.
Play air guitar for successful completion of vehicle mod.
Take for a drive.

i have a 03.5 and mine is tapped to the foglight wiring. just because you have a 03.5 with no fogs doesnt mean the wirings not there

Great idea with that fuse device. What about multiple gauges?? I'll be running Elect Boost, Elect oil pressure and WB A/F. That's a ton of wiring. The boost gauge in itself needs to power the gauge and the sender. I think I can't use the same source for both?
