need advise on a WRX

Dude... just because you're a used-car salesman (btw... you may be the first "used car salesman" to actually admit that they're a... used car salesman!) so... hats off I suppose. but I digress.... While it's your profession and you should have a better handle on this sort of stuff than most... I definitely gotta take umbridge on what you're saying. I mean, compared to cars in their respective class, based on the numbers (not simply one's oppinion) subaru's hold their value quite well. Sure, they're not a honda or toyota... but then again, few cars are! hell, even luxry cars don't hold their value THAT well! but compared to domestics and the rest of the pack.... again, based on the facts and figures, they hold their value quite well.

The WRX is a bit of an exception... because of it's popularity, those cars hold their value even BETTER than the rest of the subarus... which is saying a lot. though it's not quite buyer's remorse... part of me wishes I had opted for a wrx back in 03. it was about 2k more but would have been worth it in the long run. I can't even break even on my car (03 msp in flawless condition with low miles) whereas, if I had got a wrx, I would have been able to break even well over a year ago... and probably even make a bit of profit right about now. as it stands.... this msp, as much as I love it, is in the way of me getting an ms3... which pretty much sucks ass! haha

Subarus are typically one of the vehicle that we cringe a little when we see.

I don't want to sound like a jerk when I say this, but either they hold their value pretty well, or their drivers think that they are the best vehicles ever made. No Subaru driver is EVER happy with what we offer them. But then again.......often true with BMW drivers, and most guys who pull up in a Passat.

Me living in Austin, TX might help a bit as well. We don't really care NEARLY as much if a vehicle is AWD or not.

Either way.......not trying to make waves........just contributing my $.02

The reason many dont hold value is because most subarus are modified...........that is why most people buy these cars..........

that's a great point... but even the modded wrxs (compared to modded whateverthefvcks) do a pretty good job holding their value. i guess the fact that their engines and trannies are practically bulletproof helps. Anyone in the market for one knows this...

ehhh trannys not so much..............the trannys suck on wrxs although there have been some improvements...........sti trannys on the other hand are pretty damn rock solid.

I thought the tranny's only sucked on the 02/03? I'm thinking of say goodbye to the Protege and getting an 04. There are quite a few umodded 04 wagons on Autotrader for 15-16K. If I can get 7-8K for the Protege I'm halfway there.

my stock 2002 tranny and clutch are still fine, look at my modlist - vf34 and plenty of supporting mods

as long as you treat the tranny with care, then you're fine. my friend complains that his 05 clutch is already shot at 15k miles, but he drives like a mad man. i just rolled 30k in mine and it's doing as good as the day i bought it. and if you're really worried about the tranny, then get a newer model. or save up for an sti tranny.
