Mystery button

Hello everyone,

I bought my 02 Protege5 back in October and it has a button on it and I have no idea what it does. It's right below the fog light switch area in the little card holder compartment, see picture in the link: http://imgur.com/BhLNbfk

Anyone know what this button does? Thanks!

It's not stock so it's hard to tell. The little red light isn't stock either. Could be an on off switch for amp. Trace the wires and see where they go

I'm going to guess that's the 'program' button for an after market alarm... and the red light was the 'armed' light.

it either an alarm or amp control as both members mentioned above, i would guess alarm since it has that red light button above it

Gotta be NOS ... Don't press it while driving or u'll blow the welds on ur intake lol

It turn the car into a sub marine..worst mistake I did was press that button

I should have listened but no, I had to press the button anyway. Car turned into a submarine and now it's all scratched up since I wasn't in the water.

Seriously though, I think it's something to do with an alarm system. I couldn't trace the wires as it's all covered up pretty good but there seems to be some kind of aftermarket alarm box so I'll look into that.

It is possible that a previous owner of the vehicle had installed aftermarket fog lights at some point in the past.

Ok but there's a factory harness and button there, not trying to be a dick just saying highly doubtful it's for fogs

Alarm makes sense with the light but why a button. How would you disarm it unless it's on a timer or something once you unlock the door

maybe for a quick arming when you get out instead of a key-less entry triggered setup. or maybe just maybe his car is a transformer, or has a turret gun that pops out lol.

It's probably a 'program' button... the alarms I've had in the past have all required one for changing settings like which siren you want to go off, wether or not to blink the lights, honk, or whatever when arming... to attach remotes... and, there was also a sequence to turn off the siren or something if you ended up setting it off somehow...

Could have been any number of things, interior neons, aftermarket fogs, a switch for an amp. But nobody on here can guess, YOU have to pull the wires and find out now that we are all wondering!

Only one way to find out...
