I was putting my summer tires back on and I notice some rust developed on the wheel well/fender lip area. I was able to clean it off with some lithium grease and I hope it's just surface corrosion.

Just wondering if the rust develops again is it covered under the corrosion warranty? My P5 is less than a year old.

Yes that is covered. You need to take it in ASAP so they can fix it and repeint over the area. My brother has a 2000 Exterra he just bought 2 months ago and found some surface rust on the hatch right at the window. He went to nissan and it got fixed and painted on Monday.

where exactly is the wheel well/fender lip area.

I'm not use to all the english statement

that is bcoz the salt during the winter
remember u always need to wash ur car... even there are snow!

More bad news...I found that the paint around the area are peeling off with exposed bare metal underneth. Now I think this is a warranty issue.

Should I cover the bare metal area with touchup paint for now? I've schedule an appointment with the dealer but they won't be able to look at it until next week.

I would suggest having the dealer look at it 1st b4 you do any type of 'touch up'. If the bare metal bothers you enough touch it up with clear.
I don't know where you live but here in good ole Ohio the rust spots are caused from a combination of Road Salt they use half the year and small metal particles left by other vehicles. It seems to stick to your car and as the winter progresses the spot grows til you give the car a good waxing. AS for washing your car all winter long( /Flame on/) this is actually a bad thing. The water just disolves the salt and allows it to settle in areas that you may not want it to. Also salt being the wet forms into crystaline form where if you use a wash mit you had better rinse after every swipe in a different bucket b/c if you don't you will get swirl marks. I am not saying to not wash your car when the car is salty I am just saying you can pressure wash your car on the days where it is warmer but do it at pressure wash station and not every other day. (/flame off/)
Let us know what the dealer states. Normally rust warranty is not covered unless it is 'rust through' meaning from the inside out and a hole or bubble has developed. Tiny surface rust spots don't count. If you can submit a picture so we all can check this spot for the same condition and if we all get it we may be looking at a design/materials flaw that we can press the issue a little further with MazdaUSA.
