my 1st autox

Well it wasn't really an actual event. It was a driving school for newbies. This is the first time I've even done anything like it. We had a class of all the rules, then did some test driving through slolems and a skid pad. They definately helped me to find the breaking point of my car. At the end they set up a moch course and we all ran it. The list of cars that I can remember:

1. Me MP3
2. WRX
3. BMW M3
4. Civic Si
5. Focus ZX3
6. Cavilere
7. Audi A4 quattro
8. Protege ES
9. old porshe 944
10. Supercharged Mazda Miata
11. Jetta

That's all I can remember.
During the timed run I ended up being 3rd fastest behind the M3 and the miata. But the miata had Dunlop Auto Crossers on and stuck to the track very well. The Miata had a fastest time of 27.7, the M3 had 27.8 and I had a 28.1. It was awesome for my first time out. Learning how to kick the ass end out around turns and stuff. I was definately having a ball. I have a couple pics to post up but not as many as I would like to. Unfortunately I don't have any of me in action but I have the M3 and Audi. When I get them uploaded I'll postem. Oh, the focus and the cavilere had chicks driving them. I think the cavi had a best time of 35.5 and the focus was 30.?. The girl could really drive the focus and wasn't afraid to throw it into the turns pretty fast. The cavi was a little scared of the course though. Oh the porshe was not impressive at all. His car lacked in handling quite badly. He defintely needs to do some suspension work. I will probably have to compete in the STS class when it comes time. I have a CAI and they claim it knocks me outta stock class. It was so much fun, I'm still running on adrenaline and it's been like 6 hours since I raced. I just want to get back out there. Unfortunately I have to wait a month before i can go again :(. I'm gonna have to buy some new tires soon as I still have the stock dunlops on and they have about 26,000 miles on em. Oh and I got to see a new Lancer Evo but he didn't race. Wish he woulda. Well thanks for letting me share my excitement with you guys. Till next time. Slow in Fast out.

that is sweet, you should throw your stock air box back in for autox. I really would love to autoX my mp3. If anyone knows any classes or anything in the philly area tell me. i wouldnt want to look like an idiot the first time out there. Im sure i would need some help. I cant believe u got 26,000 out of your dunlops that is a lot. congrats and good luck on upcomming events

Dammit Pa_Mp3_man, I forgot about today being the test for NHSCC. Ill be out next suday with the Speed. Will they let me run without the schooling, or do i need to do a test day with them ?

Lemme know, cause i wanna cut loose the spicy juice :D

No boost, you don't have to go to a school before you race. You can just show up and and pay $20 and drive that day. You get 4 runs to get your best time. I'm definately glad I went to this thing though. I really had no idea what I was doing before and the guys helped me out a lot. Um I won't be around to head out there this next weekend. I wish I could. But I have to go and see my GF up in State College so i'll have to catch you at the next one. Oh make sure you bring a helmet that's snell 85 or newer certified. Clean out pretty much everything in your car. Except for what you have in your glove box, console etc. If it can fly around while you're driving you have to remove it.

Saturday they are doing a Test and Tune for members only. It's only $20 to become a member and I think if you go out there and pay that you can get some practice in and talk to some guys. If you become a member it'll be $15 to practice for the day. Go to www.nhscc.com to get forms and stuff. You can maybe e-mail them to make sure you can join and try out on Saturday as I am not sure about that yet.

Now I'm gonna really be pissed off that I have to go up to State College instead of racin. I soo wanted to see your car too. Oh well. I'm sure I'll see you sometime there. Good luck if ya go dude.

And PaulMp3, I should put my stock box back on for autox but there's only 1 thing stoppin me. It just sounds too freaking sweet to take off my injen. The guys at the starting line were like, holy s*** I can really hear your car suckin air in.

thanks, i will call them and ask them for details. Do you need to get a helmet? if so where could i find one?

paul, check out www.autox4u.com -- go to "philly region" and it will give you all the info you could want. next autoX is scheduled for 26 April. you can also PM or email me for info/advice/etc.

everyone at Philly region is extremely friendly and the events are well-run. at pretty much any regional event, if you tell someone you are new, they will help you out. in addition, philly has more than a few national-level drivers, so you'll getbsome good instruction. instructors are more than happy to ride along with you or take you for a ride in their car.

look for my thread "Philly AutoX results"...i update it after every event. and you are certainly welcome to come out and just watch if you want.

hope to see you out sometime!

You can find a helmet usually at an ATV or Motorcycle shop. You can also go on Ebay and buy one. Just make sure it's snell certified. Depending on the clubs discrepency, just DOT is not always accepted.

only DOT is definitely nOT SCCA-legal. look for Snell M90 or newer...the helmet i just bought (HJC CL-5) listed at $82 at Yamaha City in Philly, and is Snell 2000 certified, which means i should be able to use it for a good long time.

Yes I know about that, but some private clubs don't have to follow SCCA rules and can use their own. For the most part you will have to have a Snell 95 or newr helmet. For NHSCC you have to have a Snell 85 or newer helmet so they are a little more leinient. I would definately go somewhere and try on some helmets first to find out what size you need and see what fits you best. Then look for the cheapest price on the net and get it.

And why the hell isn't any commenting on my runs. Besides Paul, thank you very much. I see how you all are. Just use me, use me, use me. Well atleast I know where I stand :).

thanks for the info on the helmets. i will bring all those certification # with me whne i go helmet shopping. I found a lil autoX event happening this weekend so im gonna have to get a helmet before then. thanks for the info. im siked for sun!!!

Well, I eamiled the club, about saturdays test and tune. Hopefully they will let me sign up and practice then. I need to get a feel for my speed. I am deffinitly gonna race sunday though.

I prolly see ya there at the end of month race Pa_MP3_MAN. BTW my name is Craig :D

there is an event called Hyperfest at http://www.beaverun.com 2 day event may 17-18 they gonna have a show event autox and drifting. Im goin, but have not decided if im gonna race or just show. Look into it, SCCA uses the track for alot of big events. Its nice from what I have seen on the net.

Well I'll definately be there on the 27 but unfortunately I can't go to that beaverrun thing. That's the day my girl graduates from college and I have to go see her.

My GF and I are definately going out to Carlisle though. I think we're only staying friday and saturday cause I wanna be back for the AutoX on Sunday. If you're headin up let me know. We'll meet up somewhere out there. You can send me e-mails at stivasonm@sasd.k12.pa.us so we don't have to keep checking this board all the time. Oh and my names Mitch, great to meet ya. Well I'll get back to you later. Have a good one.
