MPS6 was on BBC Top Gear

Well after six hours of downloading the file and another half hour of finding the right codec to view the show, I have to say -

I can't stand Jeremy Clarkson.

Wish they would've shown the MPS6 around the track with the Stig. However, the old guy cutting through the last corner on his test run almost made up for it.

The show opens with a focus on the Ford Mondeo, MPS6, and the Vauxhall Vectra. The Vectra was extremely quick (faster than the Ford and Mazda), but had such horrible understeer that the Stig had trouble keeping it on the course. The MPS6 ran the course in 1:31:xx I think. Reasonably quick. Jeremy doesn't like the grill - he wouldn't buy one because of it. Looks too low rent for his taste.

I skipped through much of the show. There was the news were Jeremy basically bashed all things American (which he always does). They drove an F1 Toyota in a warehouse. Had some big caravaning (camping) trip... blah, blah, blah. Bryan Cox was a celebrity guest who drove the course in a Chevy I think in 2:01:xx. He was really embarrassed.

Although he hated the look of the grill, it was enough to validate my purchase. He stated that he rarely had as much fun driving a car as he had driving the MPS6.

i don't like the grille either but i hardly think it is a reason to not buy the car.

They really never showed much of the ms6 at all really. Most of the show was on some stupid caravan trip, the ford and stig. Although funny, they didn't show enough about the ms6

Mazda needs to step and start advertising this car more.

^^^^ werd... I like the car but the grill is funny looking. I think I'd buy a legacy Gt over it just cause the legacy gt looks so sexy and also has good power and AWD.

I'm not a huge fan of the grill or the black plastic looking molding around the exhaust. But overall I'd rock an MS6 in a heartbeat. I just hope someone makes a nice, tasteful bodykit for.

Once again I present to you:

Stealth sedan styling done right. Firm up that suspension a tad and up the boost ever so slightly, and subaru has given me a real good reason to skip the MS6 and get in this bad boy

The Vectra got owned. /sarcasm use the youtube link and hold your breath as you see how good the Vectra can handle /sarcasm. This is why i love mazda so much, they look at the whole picture, not just a straight line car.

great segment, coulda done more mps shots, less mazda bashing. still amazing to watch it fly around with grace in the corners. vectra is pretty much a malibu, nothing to write home about. the caravan bit was pretty hilarious up until the end, where you could tell the last bits were scripted. the f1 segment was pretty pointless, but hey it gave toyota something to cheer about in their press releases.

man i tried to start a thread about this topgear ep in the mazda6 section and got no love(sad1)

Yeah I was stuck in traffic and put my eyes on a, what looked like freshly waxed black subaru legacy GT with factory spoiler and factory large rims. It was pure sex. I would take it over the mazda 6. It looks so classy.

Same here. I personally think if Mazda had just done a tastefuly bodykit on the 6 or the 6hatch, with a nice exhaust setup, AWD and the 2.3 DISI Turbo motor and left of the "Super Hood Bulge" action and "funky black cladding at the back thing, it would have looked even better.

Not bashing the MS6 though. It would for sure be on my short list. But the legacy would probably beat it out.

well that was better than his article on it. he just kept babbling on & on about random s*** and actually talked about the car in the last 2 paragraphs

He seemed to like driving it for the most part. I would pick the mondeo for the simple fact that it looks far too plain. There has to be a mix of steath and aggression. Equal parts family man + boy racer + stealth bomber.

Yeah, but I see LOTS of these flying around town. To date in a city of 1 million, I have only seen 5 MS6s around town. Something to be said about exclusivity as well.

I test drove the LGT before purchasing the MS6. Both great cars, but the MS6 just seemed to offer a more visceral driving experience than the LGT which, on the other hand, seemed somewhat removed from the driving experience.

Can't argue with you on the driving dynamics aspect! The Mazdas got that over the legacy. And it probably is more exclusive also, but how often do we drive our cars to the ragged edge in daily driving? Maybe a track day? Maybe the occasional freeway blast.

If Mazda would do a re-style of the hood (take out all the bulges and freshen up the rear and for goodness sakes fix the pea-shooter exhaust and remove that black plastic cladding, then it would sway me to the MS6.

The Mazda is the better car. I just have a few styling hitches with it.
