Most Overrated Luxury Brand

yeah, lets see caddilac or jaguar do that.. lexus takes care of there customers, i mean, u pay 50k for a car, i better get free stuff.....

uh, cadillac DOES do that. my grandfather bought one thirty years ago and every year they send him a package with things geared towards his interests. he was an avid golfer so usually that includes rather nice attire, equipment, tickets to events, etc. not the "free oil change" addressed to "protege5 owner" letters i get where the service manager hand writes in my name and mileage, lol. the caddy dealer, even though he owns buick, services his car routinely (granted, GM is GM) and does the free detailing, wash, breakfast deal as well. they also have a fairly nice loyalty program if you stick with and buy thier cars time after time

mercury is a useless psuedo-luxury brand

mercury is more like buick, a premium-level 'normal' brand

i do like how mercury cars look though, given its class level/price range.

my uncles lexus gives him a ton of problems, which is where my statement was based from. but given that a lot of you feel differently, then maybe he just got a bad car. id go with bmw as being my favorite. my dad has a 2003 z3 2.3 that runs like a champ and has NEVER given him problems. my one neighbor drives an older 5 series and has never had a single problem... and a family friend has a newer 7 series and that thing is just insane, pricey, but amazing. bmw rules.

we had an older 3-series, and most of it's life it was reliable, but when they start to give, they just all out wanna die. at a certain point, we had problem after problem and eventually sold it because it would die at random times, and my dad didn't like the idea of a car that would just leave my mom in the middle of nowhere without warning.

Meh, kinda. But they're not a real luxury car brand. BUT, they did have the Marauder for a short time...(rockon)

Like all cars when they get old they want to die.

And to think all of those bums out there keep them barely alive!!!! If only the cars would talk and let us know that they just wanted to die in peace.

My parents each have a Lexus LS. They are unbelievably boring but extrememly well built cars. Their Lexus/Infiniti mechanics sees them everyday at 300K no problem.

JAGUAR has to be the most overrated brand. I have never seen them close to finishing top 5 in a C&D comparo.

I'd say Lexus is overrated, not in terms of reliability, but in terms of prestige. Granted, they've gotten a lot better lately in blurring the lines between the Lexus/Toyota boundaries, but I still look at an RX300 and think Camry. You're paying for the name and the gadgets, nothing special or distinguishing.

Acura, at least until this most recent round of redesigns, was similar. Sure, the bodywork and interiors looked different, but the powerplants were all the same.

what's wrong with honda/toyota engines? they're some of the best in the industry, probably better than most other 'luxury' brand cars

I work at a lexus dealership I am a mechanic. The cars are not too bad, but we do have some problem cars. But it is nothing that we can't fix :) We try to treat every customer with loyalty because they made a large purchase with us. http://lexus.com/about/history/index.html That is a very interesting page..

i think tha acura is overprice too i woudn't pay 24k for the rsx type s thats a lot for a little car like that just my opinion

not just the engines are awesome. acura trannys > *

Jaguars are what real "Luxury" cars should be...especially the previous XJ series...low...long...slender...elegant...smooth...tastefull...not like the ice cold brutish German makes...In the cars mags they favor the handling and power of the rigid German makes but most always say the Jag has the most "Luxury" feel...and that JAG V8 is a sweet engine...;)

if jags weren't as tempermental in terms of reliability, they would be that 'best luxury'. the parts are high quality, and w/ my mom's xk8, when you hit the pedal, that thing purred and performed.

The only thing I hate about Lexus is the price for parts. I've been working on my boss's Lexus(s) lately and wow I'm glad I'm not shelling out the money for the parts. Hes got an 05 430 and a 93 gs300, a plastic piece that goes around the window is $430 bucks. Not even my dad's bmw parts cost that much.
Bmws are not overrated. My dad bought a 92 525i in 93 and got 190000 out of it before he sold if for 3000 and got him an 01 525i. Funny thing is, as opposed to you guys with the dealers giving you free stuff, the people at Bmw are all pricks.
I personally think Acuras are overrated. The TLs and RLs look decent but for the money one can do so much better.
