anyone have the part number for the mazdaspeed protege camber bolts offered by mazdaspeed motorsports development? i was reading protegefaq.net and saw these listed as a way to get more neg camber out of the front. they listed them as being $3 a piece

Not sure of the Mazdaspeed Motorsports specifically, but your average chassis manufacturer like Moog has them that offer +1.25 to -1.25 of adjustment.

Better check and see where in the body shop manual it says you can use crash bolts. I do not believe Mazda lists the usage of crash bolts as a viable fix for alignment.

that would be nice, but i have to have factory offered parts for autocross

I've always wanted to autocross, but Jesus Christ... Do they actually check this stuff or are you just wanting to be honest? And would Mazdaspeed Motorsports be considered "factory-offered"? Someone else was needing parts to autocross and it had to be a factory airbox... There are certain classes where you can be heavily modified, right?

yeah, that was next. i hope it is, but probably not as u mentioned
The factory adjustment is the strut mount (rotating it), but that only allows for a certain amount of adjustment which is negligible for what you need I believe.

Edit: Just checked my Hunter HawkEye to see what the factory adjustment is and it only allows .5 of adjustment.

there are lots of classes for modded cars. as far as u wanna go. i just have more fun in stock, money plays less into the competition in most cases in stock class.

honesty helps everyone, lol...usually, in stock class, you end up knowing your competition just as well as your own car. many will eventually know the camber limit of this car. example would be if a stock class mini cooper showed up with -3camber. it would be obvious at national events

i have never seen a stock class legal crash bolt option for our car. the strut rotation comment is spot on (it's ok per the manual) but only nets 0-0.1 degrees! So we're stuck w/ around -0.5 degrees tops. I think i ended up w/ even less than that. it is one of the car's drawbacks w/ no good solution, and unfortunately costs us big time in tire costs. be ready to flip tires before it's too late.
perhaps the positive is that the lack of camber will allow you to better stuff a 245 in front. i know Jay did w/ Kumho's a few years ago and others did way back. i'm still curious if/how well the hoosier 245s would work. not that the 225 square setup was all that bad

Depending on the class that you want to run in, there are some fairly inexpensive coil over setups for this car that will give total control over camber, Height and stiffness.

Swapping out the bushings will have a massive effect on the reaction to wheel input.

The new rules for crash bolts and camber allowances looked really forgiving. Thought i would at least look into it as much as i could. It still was a pipe dream to think that a mazdaspeed competition part would be allowed as a factory piece, but with scca stock class rules allowing so much these days, it should be at least submitted for clarification. Look at the mini jcw spring thing and the genesis camber kit recently.

Im used to tire flipping.....been in stock class minis for a long time

Just an FYI; Crash bolts in my car caused the steering wheel alignment to change after hard turns (ie. take a turn hard, and when the wheel returns it's at a 90 degree angle). My brother told me it was impossible the crash bolts where causing it, so I put the OEM bolts back in, and voila!, issue has been fixed ever since. YRMV

^Was it the style that used the plastic eccentric or were they full steel?
