Mazda OEM mud flaps in the snow?

So I have been going back and forth on getting the OEM mud flaps. I'm glad to hear people haven't seen a MPG difference with or without them. I do kind of like the look of them making them look slightly more aggressive than without. My main concern right now is wondering if the mud flaps tend to help snow build up in the wheel well since its more enclosed. Has anyone has issues of snow building up in the wheel well because of the mud flaps?

No problems with snow buildup but I'm disappointed with the function of the fronts which allow road film to be thrown all over the sides of the vehicle. Anyone know of a larger front mud flap availability? Or do I need to create my own?

We got at least an inch of snow briefly (melted in a couple of hours) yesterday in the great Socal blizzard of 2016 :D . Had a bit of build up in the lower grille area driving down the freeway, but the mud flaps had virtually none.

It is not a problem for me (Minnesota). No more build-up than other vehicle I've had. Reverse heel-kick (a technique know to all who drive in snowier states!) clears 'em in a jiffy!

Do we have any cheaper alternatives other than the OEM mud flaps ? Im planning to put one for my 2016 CX5. Please advice
