That drop is very drastic, Good to know they are doing better now. If i get a chance i will post some parts of the article too. i would post a link, but you have to be a member. It talked mainly about how ford helped.

I really was curious too, so I searched the Ford site, and came up with this. From http://www.ford.com/en/company/inve...ls/annualReports/2001annualReport/default.htm

"Chairman's Message
Building Our Future
Our results in 2001 were unacceptable.

For most of the past decade, Ford Motor Company led the industry in profits and shareholder returns. In the previous five years, we distributed nearly $50 billion in cash and securities to our shareholders.

Last year, we suffered a substantial loss.

Many factors contributed to our loss. We encountered difficult economic conditions and tough competition. The costs and controversy associated with our tire replacement program for Ford Explorer clearly took their toll. We pursued strategies that were either poorly conceived or poorly timed. The real cause of our poor performance, however, was that we lost track of the things that made us great.

If you look at our history, it is clear that our success has always been driven by our products and our people."

'01 was a bad year for all carmakers, what with 9/11 screwing up everybody, and the burst of technology bubble, dot coms falling off left and right.

not having a complete refreshed lineup of cars in '01 also hurt Mazda

Having a guy named Lewis Booth as the CEO of a Japanese company may have hurt too...

(ha)

emails

Hey, does anyone know the email schemes that ford/mazda use?

Like
ShmoeJ@mazdaeurope.com <---- not a real email
for Joe Shmoe?

If so we could use the names from that shot and try sending them our clunk emails :) :D

hahaahahahahahahaha, and blame the MP3 for 2001 losses.

"You had to replace 47 thousand worn bushings, 56 thousand endlinks and an assload of swaybars...and its still happening...If you want a good 2004, clear this s*** up bro!"

oh jeez I crack myself up
:D
