So, still looking at 5's:

See in some people's signatures, they have Injen and others CAI's, so I was wondering what affect you think it's had on your car. Good vs bad? (economy, noise, HP, etc)

Thanks.

I have had them on many cars/trucks. Emissions are cleaner (verified at a COLORADO EMISSIONS FACILITY)! I have noticed a slightly peppier response, and better fule milage in previous cars. Can't verify any of that happened to my 5, as I put it on days after I bought it.

I know on my jetta - there is a real problem of fouling the MAF (oil from the aftermarket coating the sensor) - is this a problem with Mazda 5's? I'm guessing maybe no since it's not a forced induction engine?

If you over-oil it, I should think you might have a MAF problem. No probs on the Mazda 5, nor any of my 3 forced induced Saabs.

VW's have a particular problem with it - maybe they just have touchy maf's - goes along with everything else of their's being touchy.

Still any ideas on preferred brand of CAI? Anyone?

Over oiling is the problem. I have 2 Jettas (one of them is in mothballs due to the M5 purchase) and use K&N's on them and have had no problem. To be on the safe side I clean the maf after a couple hundred miles after cleaning the filters just to be on the safe side. If it's a Mk3 Jetta it doesn't hurt to clean the MAF anyway.

on Mk4's (at least the 1.8t's) it seemed like if you looked at the maf the wrong way it would be hosed. I think in my 8 years with my AWP 1.8t I went through 5 or so. Almost as bad as the coil packs. In my experience, it was a bit of a touchy engine, espec with the Tiptronic. Why I finally sold mine. Still -- I haven't seen a sport wagon move like that!

So, back with CAI and Mazda 5's - any preferences?
Also, I've heard 5's can use any CAI for 3's - can this be confirmed?

see a lot of views on this thread and not many comments.

I'd really like to hear user's reviews of different intakes. Help a bloke out before he makes a wise purchase or mistake. Thanks!

i dont think there are too many mazda5's running intakes. if you want one, get one.

i have one on my protege, but not the wife's 5. the protege gained throttle response, noise, and little gas milage. i would love to get one for the 5 for the additional milage it should provide, but the wife doesnt want the added noise.

I have the Fujita CAI, I dont know that I really gained fuel economy but really havent gone anywhere far to really notice....around town it's about the same, I did get better throttle response and noise.(even though I'm not fond of the clatter that you didnt hear with the resonator) other than that...Me and the intake are cool.(guitar)
