(rofl) ahh I crack myself up.

Buy a handgun to protect your life and your property. That is your right. If you feel the need to fire off a box or two of ammo, then go to the closest range and have your fun (or your practice, depending on how you are looking at it).

DON'T buy a handgun to shoot "mostly...pop-cans, prarie dogs, porcipines, and the occasional coyote". That is immature and cruel to those animals, not to mention illegal.

THAT is the only reason why anybody ever said anything negative about guns in this thread. Nobody has "spewed liberal trash", and somebody who thinks that the nature/history of man is to terrorize small animals for fun is a complete moron. Yes, it is in our nature to hunt, but if you want to hunt for food or for sport, get a rifle and learn how to shoot it. An accurate shot means little to no pain for the animal you are hunting.

Amen brotha!!! I see it everyday as people are to ingorant to realize that turn signals are useful, pushing my arse don't make me go faster, and I can ride close to their car than they could ever hope to. :) Tucking your side mirror right in front of theirs tends to give them a white eye wake up call.

Not to be used mostly on small passenger cars, Raptors, underwater squids, or motha-fin T-Rex.....
(lol) (headbang)

well, we ARE about 30 minutes from where they found Sue, th T-rex. (google it if you don't know). Maybe we could be hunting "mother f-in T-Rex"

I believe my brothers situation is quite unique. Imagine a place where you have 4000+ acres to raise cattle, and the nearest neighbor is over 4 miles away. Also the nearest coke machine is over 30 miles away, and the nearest bank is 70 miles away... I believe the nearest range is our backyard.

Why not? He already has a .243 rifle, .223 rifle, and 12 gauge. and those are used for the purposes stated in the first post. Coyotes, porcipines, and prarie dogs are all varmints, hunting season is open all year round and no limit all for a $5 license

Sometimes peoples' ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

if you think i'm ignorant, so be it... I think you are a gun control advocate who really had no business in this thread... This is a thread about buying guns, and he will regardless what any of you say, esp since he doesn't even visit this forum. If you want to talk gun control, make your own thread.

I have a springfield XD-9. If you are looking for something inexpensive, get one. Shoots great and was only $400.

That said. What I WANT, is one of these!!! In a .40 please :)

When did I mention gun control at all in my post? Re-read it. I even made the point to say that it was his right to posess a handgun, so as to make it quite clear that I do not think firearms should be banned.

The sole purpose he wants to buy a handgun is to act immature with it. Or actually now with the additional info you've given me, he wants another toy to go along with his others so he can act immature with THEM. And THAT is why I said what I said. Not because I am the crazed left-wing liberal hippy gun control advocate that you think I am. Like Dexter said, "im not anti gun, im anti moron".

Go have fun shooting your 'varmints'. If that is the only thing that you people can think of to pass your time, then you have more problems than I care to go into detail about.

people in this thread who are complaining about the poor varmints that he is mercilessly shooting have obviously lived in the country.
I highly doubt he will be riding around in a pickup truck "hunting" these animals, but when you have children, these animals cna be dangerous around your house, not to mention small animals, like chickens. prairie dogs have killed more horses than most other things I can think of.

now I agree, if he is just shooting to shoot (no kids, horses, chickens, etc.) then its excessive, unnecissary, and cruel. However, a man has a right to protect his family, and his livelyhood.

just for the record, I've lived in both the country growing up, and now live in the city

as for guns, I would recomend a number of different guns. if you are a gun collector/lover/fanatic then you NEED to own a custom 1911. it just a given. I'd also recomend Paraordinance, Desert Eagle, HK, Sig Sauer, Glock, etc.

but if you are looking for a low maintainance, drag it through the dirt, get it wet and still shoot it, then buy a glock, no question.

That's not the kind of gun he needs for that sort of thing. Have him search online and look through the gun mags until he gets a direction (handgun or rifle) first.

I love my Sig-Sauer P225.

It's the black Porsche 911 of handguns. Sure, it's only single-stack 8+1, but most confrontations are solved with 0-3 rounds. More than that and someone's probably dead or bleeding everywhere.

But for the money, the mint East German Makarov I bought in a trailer park for 100 bucks (probably worth 3 times that) is just as accurate if a little hard to find ammo for.

Now that I read the original post.... just buy a varmint rifle if you want to kill varmints. You're not going to get them with a handgun even if you're Ted Nugent.

If you want to just go plinking, then get something with inexpensive ammo, like a .22. If you are looking for self-defense then look into something with some stopping power, .40 or .45. Home defense? Get a nice shotty.

So many different brands of guns...so little time. Personally, I have a Hungarian rip-off of a Walther PP in 9X18 and a S&W in .40. My hubby has a full-size Sig Sauer in .40 and it is one of the best guns I've shot to date. Other favorites include Glocks in all sizes & calibers and a Lightweight Commander we used to have. I do not care for revolvers at all so I sold my .38 Special Airweight.

Please do some homework before you buy. Lots of ranges will let you rent guns and test them out. Also, take some gun safety classes PLEASE.

when i had "varmints" take over my garage i used a baseball bat to send them to flying squirrel heaven. cheaper and definately a better workout (those little guys are quick)

Safety classes = check

started when we were 8 years old.

he's thinking .40 cal or 9mm. It seems .40 cal bullets are cheaper though.

he is also in the process of getting a concealed gun permit...
