Recently purchased a used 2002 Proteg5 and just noticed that the hood is a bit loose. It does lock, but the small open space on the sides is a bit annoying. I'm a super-novice at this so any suggestions and info is greatly appreciated! -pc3
Did you push it all the way down (stupid question)... but it will latch and lock without being all the way down.. In other words.. when closing it, it will click twice...
I did check for the two locking sounds and got my duck tape ready just in case!
Here are a few snaps of what's under the hood. I noticed there is this air intake type of piece that sits on top of the radiator. Not sure if this would give it the extra push.
Thanks for the responses! Great Forum! Can't wait to get into some mods! -pc3
hmm.. it could be anything from the latch being missaligned to the two rubber adjustments on each side of the front. I dont think it is that air box you are talking about though.
What would be best for you to do is do a quick onceover and see if its anything simple, otherwise take it into the dealership and let them worry about it since you say your a super-novice.
I'd bet it's the two black "bumpers". They can be found right above each headlight on each end of that top crossmember. They can be lowered by twisting on them clockwise (they thread into the crossmember). Do it little by little though as just a small turn makes a big difference.
If adjusting those "bumpers", I'd look at the hood latch alignment next.
