Does anyone know if the brand TecVox is good for mobile video?

The one im looking at is 7.2" widescreen with a resolution of 1550(H) X 308(V) at 300 NIT. Im going to be doing a custom install in the dash so I want to make sure I get a decent screen at a decent price. I need good guality for what i want to do with it.

yeah id go alpine if i had the money.. but i think the setup im going for is going to kill any alpine flip out tv.. but the only part thats holding me back is the lcd.. and i dont want one that flips out.. i want to custom mount it into the dash.. so i just need a good quality screen. i checked out the local stores and they have some good ones.. just a little more than id like to spend for just a screen.

i think i'll go for this one tho.. i dont think anyone is gunna kno enough about that brand to comment.. worst thing that could happen is that its too blurry for what i want it for.. and id sell to someone a little cheaper and lose a few bucks..

I have never seen a no name brand worth a damn yet.
It doesn't even show up on the lists in Mobile Entertainment video monitor guide.
Most of these companies aren't really even making the screens they are just reselling.

When you say you want "quality" but then say you don't have money for one and you just settle for a no name brand don't make yourself believe you are getting quality. I wouldn't get that monitor, its not worth it, save up money and get something good and worth it.

well its supposed to be a secret... but i dont kno if it will be done anytime soon enough to keep it a secret.. so i might as well tell..

Im going to mount the LCD in the dash (7.2" widescreen comes pretty close to filling the entire double DIN). And instead of just putting a DVD drive somewhere im going to put one of the Shuttle "Small Form Factor " computer cases and motherboards and build a computer system in my car with TV output. Id rather buy a LCD thats made for computer output but the ones that small are way out of my budget. I think this one will do even if its a little blurry. I plan to put a 120 gig HD and be able to play mp3's and downloaded movies. I'll have a wireless network card to hook up to my home network and later on a wireless internet card and have interent in my car. I think it would be better to have a car dvd player instead of one in the computer for skipping. I just have to worry about where to placethe computer (away from the vibrations and magents of the sub) and the externatl dvd player.. possibly dvd navigation (i want it out of eye sight, but still accesible)

This way i can access all of my music from home (once i transfer it) and access any downloaded movies without looking for cd's or dvd's. and without paying close to 2 grand for a flip out screen/dvd player.

I guess i should have said "quality" because i dont expect it to be the best screen on the market. I dont know if its a namebrand screen in a non-namebrand packaging or not. All I know so far is those specs and compared to most, those specs are pretty good. I was basically asking if anyone has purchesed anything by that brand before or not. The screen cost me under 200 online and would have cost me over 300 at a local store WITH the discount the give me. Its not a big deal to me if I have to sell it because its too blurry for what i need it for. I will see when it gets here.

mi plan on doing the exact same thing in my MSP, but im putting a stereo in when i get it, so the lcd & co. will have to wait a few months at least. only real diff between my plans and yours is i dont plan on having a dvd drive at all sincei see not point in being able to play dvds in my car and im using this for the PC:

those seem way overpriced to me....

"Aurora Auto PC - Intel 1700mhz Celeron,128mb RAM, DVD, 20Gb Hard Drive, PCMCIA slot, Touchpad, Digital Dash Software, Windows XP $1550 US "

"Memphis Auto PC - NS Geode 300mhz,128mb RAM, 20Gb Hard Drive, PCMCIA & CF slots, Touchpad, Digital Dash Software, Windows XP $799 US "

thats why im building it myself, for less than 800 (the CHEAPEST one on that site).. i can build something faster and with more memoy.. id be interested in seeing those accessories they have tho.. all they have is an IR keyboard, im going to try a RF keyboard so people in the back seat can be more comfortable. voice recognition would be sweet.

As for DVD, I dont think its going to be something I'd use either.. but its like "sweet he has a DVD player in his car"..

Im working on audio and video first because I cant add any preformance parts til after I move out.

hey guys, im planning on doing the car pc thing too. . .what mobo/peripherals do you plan on using?
im thinking im going to use the new VIA EPIA M5000 with everything intergrated, not bad from the reviews i heard....best off all you need is your ddr and hard drive to get it going. . .im trying to look at spending less than 1000 dollars if that is possible for the computer/lcd/HU/speakers for my MP5. . .that doable with decent stereo stuff

for peripherals, i plan on either flush mounting a touchpad from a laptop or maybe mounting a trackball mouse somewhere so only the ball is popping up, maybe next to the e-brake or something. i cant imagine any instance where i will need a keyboard

ELEmental59437, I like your idea.... my friend is planning to install a similar system in his 2003 Maxima. He's having trouble finding a good location to install the computer b/c of the vibrations and shocks while driving. I think he's going to fabricate an anti-vibration / floating install... something that utilizes springs or cushions in a plexiglass box. anyways.... good no name LCD screens are hard to come by. especially when looking for something that's not already housed in some sort of casing. if you're going to run a computer with a 7.2"... GOOD LUCK... you better get a magnifying glass. i'd suggest something larger like 10" or 11". at 7.2" you probably won't even see the text under the icons.

just for some viewing pleasure....

traitorhound, on my third post i put a link to the mobo and case im using. it has everything integrated. even onboard s-video out on some models.

slug420, i thought about the flush mount touchpad, or touch screen. Ultimatle im going to put a touchscreen when i find one that will fit over it perfectly. Right now im thinking about the wireless keyboard and mouse that runs on RF, that way people in the back can control the system when i put the headrest monitors in.

ChopstickHero, im using a 7.2" widescreen out of a roof mount kit. I found the cheapest deal on the roofmount so its not a problem to take it out of the casing and custom mount it. I hope to make it a really clean install. And for reading the text, I can easily adjust the icon and text sixe from the computer to make it easily readable froma distance. like the ghetto screen size u get right when u install an OS before u tweak it. i want to make it flush mounted with the dash, obviously a 10" or 11" wont fit in that tiny hole.

Im just crossing my fingers that it will all turn out as sweet as i want it to. If it does, i'll be sure to post plenty of pictures to show it off ;) ...

beware, most touch screen LCDs let you touch the screen to control input or volume or contrast or that kind of stuff, but there is no way they will enable you to control your OS through touching the screen. i dont know of any 7"ish lcds that will let you do that. when u think about it, all that is going to the lcd screen is a wire for the video signal, how would information you touch into the screen be transferred back to the PC and read into the OS for processing.....

yeah depends on the kind of screen u get tho. earthLCD.com has a bunch of touch screens available with computer interface... or u can buy just the touch part and stick it to ur LCD.. and its fully interfacable to a computer, and u can even write your own software for it. But I have yet to find one with the exact demensions i want. And the problem with touch is, the people in the back cant control it if they have headrest screens. (....I've been thinking about this system for about a year)

oh really!

You may be interested in this. If you were to use the LCD touch pad as the Control for the desktop you could use this.

Basicly you make a program and then on the touch panel launch a browser. The Browser calls the TCP/IP of this littlew guy and it control the entire system anyway you want. Plus it can be linked with alarm system and wireless ethernet. Plus you can make 2 way communication prodicals from it to the PC. Not to mention you could use crestron touch panels in the back and the passangers could control things aswell or just use more LCDs of you liking in the back that are also linked to your CPu and then they can all call up the processor and control things.

theres a whole lotta "unnecissary" going on if anyone thinks about putting one of those in a car... I read the whole page.. and i know what it does.. yet i dont kno what it does...

it almost makes me want to take out everything and put in an AM radio... and POSSIBLY an 8 track... almost....

Welcome to my world, thats my full time job. Designing and programming control systems with Crestron and AMX. There realy isn't anything you can't control with them. If I ever get the money I will be doing a control touch panel in my car, which is also a great video panel btw. Then several monitors in the back all controled from the front. Plus I will be able to monitor the car via wireless ethernet and control the whole damn thing.
