Very good power and the damn thing sounds mean. Damn near popped a few times during the test drive. One last thing, the turbo is damn loud. Over all a very nice experience.

How's the plastics inside? cd case quality? With a (big)bit of refinement, those new neons would be f-ing sick.
As it is, I want a MSP, although the Neon is FAST in the straights.

You can reall, really hear the turbo spool with the window rolled down. It's not like your tradition whisling turbo spooling noise. It's more like a rush of air noise. Almost like you can hear the wastegate opening or something. It wouldn't bother me for everyday driving at all, but I will say one thing. The car does sound like it is pissed off when you get on the throttle. Providing a company comes out with an adjustable coilover kit for the car, I would definately consider buying one. The dealer let me hammer it a few times and 2nd and 3rd gear are powerful indeed. I had a very big grin on my face for the rest of the day after the test drive.

thats cuz it pushing something like 11-14 PSI....itd be great if someone cranked it up to......20 or so

Actually I believe the Corvette won. It looks like he is catching up at the very end. They didn't show the beginning of the race as I heard the Neon red lighted and the Vette botched his launch as well. Close race either way...

Fast indeed, but its ugly and its a neon :(
but what I do like is how much thats car is going to push the market :)

Great....I just heard a commercial on the radio for the SRT-4. Seeing as how Dodge isn't marking it up, that means that every 17-22 year old kid is gonna get their had on that thing. Which in turn means possibly more street racing accidentd here in cali. I no longer want one. Just imagine the insurance on one of those after a year goes by. Sure the SRT-4 is fast, but I'm worried that a lot of teenagers will get their hands on them. I hope parents are smart enough to teach their kids to be responsible behind the wheel.

hmmm...take one '98 Neon ACR (2400 lbs), add one engine/tranny from an inevitably cracked-up SRT...

rawk!

I am sure a bunch of kids got Mazdaspeed's as well.
Its not like these cars are in two different price ranges.

True, but you're more likely to see a kid in an SRT-4 since they're not a limited production vehicle. There's really nothing exclusive about an SRT-4, where as the Mazdaspeed is a limited production vehicle. Not to mention the additional mark-up at most dealerships (here in Cali anyway). But yes, it's not the price range, but rather the production numbers.

These SRT4's are going to be rather rare.
The 03' Models are only being sold out here in Cali and Florida as of now. As far as I know they will make it to the NE and other places by the middle of the year. Then the 04' models are the last of them as the current platform will be extinct as of 05' in the same way that the Protege will be gone.
Not as limited as say 3000 MazdaSpeeds but I would guess that there will be less than 10K made for both years. Maybe a lot less.
(2thumbs)
Additionally the dealer markups are a joke at those dealers.
I have talked to two separate places and they would drop it to sell the SRT4. I thnk this has a lot to do with peoples negative opinion of a "Neon". Especially since the SRT is so focused as a performance car, not many people are willing to or able to deal with it as a daily driver.
All the better for me as I can snatch one up on the cheap.
;)

Wow I couldnt fathom being a 16-19yr old walking into a dealership and going

"No daddy I dont want that car, it is only a limited production"

Though course I would more along the lines of

"Daddy I want SRT-4, its faster!"
;)

Kids will buy more on what is in a set price range than the fact of it being "limited production". Why? Cause price is the factor that will most directly affect their checkbook, or parents checkbook. Not the deginstation of it being limitied.

Oh and did you hear Mazda talking about increasing the numbers....

Yea lotta kids will be getting em i got mine and some 16 yr old girl was test drivng a speed. LMFAO stalled out too. the SRT 4 is a ugly car sorry 15.5 psi and its still got a happy face front fascia. its the domestic auto makers pathetic attempt to cash in on the import market cuz all the new teenagers gettin licenses saw fast and the furious a while back. Even when I was at the Mitsubishi dealer checkin out the EVO8 there was some nasty eclipse GTS with some aftermarket stuff added on and they marketed it as "the fast and the furious package" kinda lame. told them it was the ugliest pos they had. said theyre hoping some kid comes in and wants to buy it. lmfao. oh and on the board you can tell the mspeeds been bought by some kids cuz some messed up their car already. if theyre not kids they just cant handle the car. some drivers need to stick to non performance cars or take a class at a local racing school to learn to control their car.
