jack + cinder blocks = not working

so i'm a broke ass student, and need to get the front of my protege off the ground to put my new mount in. i can't afford jack stands, so went with the old standby: cinder blocks.

i don't need a lecture on how stupid that is. i'm just hoping to use them for the two or three times i have to jack the car up between now and when i get a job. also got a trolley jack on a nice black friday deal.

when i went to jack the car up (using the scissor jack points), it looked like the jack maxed out about 2 inches before i'd be able to get a block under the tire.

anyone with any advice on how to get the last 2 inches? maybe a different jack point?

this sounds like a recipe for disaster. you are trying to lift up your car the wrong way and have no clue of what you are doing...i would highly advise against it. you could kill yourself if the car is not properly supported and falls when you are under it. i dont think saving a coupla bucks is worth dying...but that is just me

You can get a pair of jack stands for ~$20 if you look around. Maybe even less if you look on your local craigslist or kijiji. Spend the cash and don't get crushed by your car.

oh yeah im supposed to jack it up from the oil pan. how could i forget?

seriously though - i did it from there to get a little more lift to (hopefully) slip a block under the tire. and like i said, im aware that it is not smart. 20 bucks for jackstands is also lunch for a week.

anyone else with tips while i finish thinking this through

well the message is clear, and i guess ill have to go look for jackstands. i have about a half dozen returns i can make, the most expensive being a 4 dollar ratchet extender. hose clamps, wire wraps, etc. hopefully i'll end my day at autozone and will walk home with a set. i guess i can use the cinder blocks if my back end slides out in the snow.
HKS type 1 turbo timer - sell this
believe me, ive considered it. ill never find it again for what i paid for it for though.

Max out the jack and try to push the car up on the blocks... But make sure the e-brake is set and the rear wheels are blocked. It's a good idea.
