Is waxing before a winter mandatory?

Hey guys..

As you guys know, i already got my car. I have to drive my car through the winter:( . Should i give my car a good wax before it see's snow/salt/slush etc? Other than winter tires, what else sould i get i preparation for this nasty winter?

We're getting 5 CMs of Snow for Christmas tommorrow! :( :( :(
i'm still riding on those beautiful Racingharts...Aurgh I'm not prepared! I hate Winter!

Anyone got their MSP rustproofed? or under coated? I didn't get anything from the dealer option and i neer plan on getting it because i hate those tar stuff under my car. ewww. Is it ok to go without in Toronto Weather??

thanks!!

For undercoating (rust proofing) try Auto FX, do a search on yellowpages.ca, there are many locations. They use the traditional "dark stuff"

5cm of snow tomorrow? You better give them a call today.

Another choice is Krown, they use oil base material (not the dark stuff), it's around $100 CAD, but you have to go back every year, plus it takes a long time to be completely dry.

Waxing MANDITORY? no...but its a damn good idea....any and all protection you can give your car from the elements, either from mother nature or man made.....is warrented....and a good thing.

If your planning on waxing it......either take it to a professional detailing place if you want it done right simply because its too cold to do it yourself and they have heated shops. Or for something that youll need to do every few weeks is take it to a coin wash and just use the high pressure spray wax option. Try to goto a newer coin wash tho thats heated water aswell. It'll be cheaper then the first option too.

I would

It would help get the snow off faster and it will help clean up of the salt and road grime.
I wax right before the winter and a whole lot during the summer.(rockon) (2thumbs) (hippy)

Don't brand new cars already have wax on them? If not, yikes! Then I drove around unwaxed from July-November when I first got my MP3...

Depends on the car dealer i guess... you can get all these done when you get your car.. thats what i did... rust, undercoat, waxed armour shield all done when i picked up my car.....

have it professionaly done. they also use a sealer. no precaution is too safe when dealing with bringing a new car into salt/winter. as for dealer optional rust proofing. before the car leaves the factory they rustproof the frame already. all that's needed. i had my last two cars rustproofed. all it does it add weight. and in the summer make your car unpleasant to work on. the rustproof in the engine bay gets sticky and attracts dirt so easily. optional rust proofing IMO is nothing but a gimmick.

thanks guys......
Why can't i just wash my own car and wax it myself? What's the differences with my wax and a professionally done waxing place? After all if i own the car, i'll put more time into wax the details. If you pay someone to do your car, they will likely not get every detail.

Orange speed i agree with you on the added weight. it's true too about how unpleasant it is to see all the 'yellow' grease like in the hinges, hood, trunk etc...

it is a gimmick!:bs:
