I know there are a few scattered clubs that keep a online listing of owners. But is there a central site to find links to all these clubs or listing databases?

Wondering who else is in the Virginia area, mostly Northern.

Your in the site that keeps it. There are ownership clubs for many regions....go to the hompage of this site. There's also a map of owners.
Start a thread in the P5 forums called "N. Virginia Owners!!!" And say hi to everyone. They should respond. Also look in...hell, here's the to the p5 registry (scroll down the home page)
registy board

And if anyone entered their location, you can search by that. IF you just click on the "members" link at the top of the page, it should automatically sort for you by distance.

Hope that helps.

Sweet thnx, just starting to explore what this community has to offer and the extent to which the members get into their cars.

Hey, if you are looking for other MP5 owners in Northern Virginia, I can say this much...I'm one! I noticed that your profile states you as living in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I live in Fredericksburg too, and bought my red 2002 Mazda Protege5 from Bill Britt Mazda. Haha, well if you need anything, or just want to call me to talk about how great of a vehicle the P5 is, then dont hesitate to e-mail me at supradude03@aol.com. See you around town!

HOLY CHIT, I did to.

Dont tell me its a 5-speed that was a demo model before??

If so that was the orginal car I was going to buy. Then on the day of going to test drive it, I saw my current blue one being offloaded from the truck.
BAM I love blue, went test drove it, came back the next week.

Have to try and hook up sometime.

heheh sweet. Lucky I didnt get that car instead of my blue one

;)

Actually there was someone before me who had the car on hold. They dropped out, then I put it hold, and dropped it when I test drove the blue 03. Kinda of wish I got the manual just for that extra gear, instead of the Sport shift automatic. However I love the auto everyday when I'm stuck in I95 traffic to Northern Virginia. We actually delt with the same salesperson cause he mention the saleing of the car when I went to pick up my trade-in check.

I'll email you sometime when I expect to be free and see if we cant hook up somewhere like Central Park etc. Want to see how nicely a aftermarket radio merges into the dash. Still undecided on how I'm going to proceed on the audio department of modifying. But if a aftermarket dash kit looks nice, then thats one less thing I have to design and build.

You probably do not see me since I live west down route 3, and normally only on the road at 0400 and late...late...late night.

Till then Z ya around

Hahaha....I understand your late night ordeals...and the commuting perspective. I commute to Richmond everyday for school, a total mileage of about 120 miles per day. Yeah it puts alot of miles on the car, but I still love that 5-speed. How does that sport transmission work? I have never driven one with a Steptronic Sport Transmission, and I wondered how it works overall. The automatic would be great though for heavy traffic.:)

Yeah, if you viewed my CarDomain page as listed above, you will see that I had an Alpine head unit and Boston Acoustics Rallye edition speakers installed. The down side: the total system cost me about $750. The Up side: I got it installed by a good friend of mine who works at Tweeter in Fredericksburg, who owns one of the most amazing MP5s in town. Jason owns a 2002 silver P5 on some really nice 18 inch chrome wheels, and he has the most amazing audio system ever. TV's, DVD, XM radio, JL Audio speakers and an amazing system of subwoofers; this car is an audio tuner's dream. The cost, in my mind, was well worth it, as Jason insured me that if there was anything at all I didn't like about the setup, that he would work it out until I approved. The deck and speakers run beautifully, and Jason did a spectacular job on everything. If you are looking to put an audio system in your P5, I recommend you take a trip to Tweeter, and ask for Alex or Jason: tell them Chandler sent you. Tell them about your P5 and my P5, and will will undoubtedly do their best to help you out.

If you are still wondering what the deck looks like in my car, then will can surely meet anytime you like to discuss audio stuff. Best of luck, and hope to seeya soon,

Chandler(redp5)

I commute to Reston which is also about 120-40 depending on the route I take. Then on the weekends visit my Girlfriend who goes to VCU in Richmond.

The sport auto works pretty well, and have been extremely happy. Its no where near the par of say Porsches etc. However it does provide and bonus when navigating traffic, or going on the race track. The P5s have a very narrow power band from which to overcome the lost of any momuteum you had in a corner. A manual would not have a problem with a little heal'toeing. But the automatics suffer greatly.....Thus why the sport auto (slap stick etc.) comes in handy. Now I can to a degree keep the rpms steady at 3.5 when approaching the exit apex. In second this will normally give the car a good launch into the next corner. Plus allow a later braking at the enter apex.
It does lag in some shift areas though.

I've seen that car at Tweeters many times. He normally parks right at the entrance to Silver Carl Parkway, in the back. Its very nice looking, completely forgot about it till you mention it.

So as I recover from the recent trip to Nexus and other crap I'll probably go in and see what they have to offer.

I do have a 10 inche Power sub from kenwood (wa-100) from a friend who no longer wanted it. Still have not installed it, will probably sell it eventually.

Well catch ya later.

That sport auto sounds great! Wish I could say that I understood everything you said! Haha, yeah well Jason's P5 is quite something else, let me tell you! Anyway, go by and see him, he will surely help you out! Best of luck in the future, and be sure to give me a call sometime!

hehe ;) Well as soon as Summit Raceway opens back up I'll be taking trips out there. They normally have weekly race days where you can show up with anything and go buzzing around the track. Play atlittle extra and get a instructor the first time, they will help show up things you probably never knew.

Z ya

Summit Raceway? Where is that exactly? Is it a drag strip or road/track course? If it is a road/track course, I would love to go there with ya sometime. Even if it's a drag strip, it would still be fun to try it out. MP5's are not superior drag cars, but their handling capabilities are unsurpassed.

Summit Raceway is a road course track in Northern Virginia, almost into West Virginia.

Summit Point Raceway

I use to go up to Maryland Internation Raceway (MIR) which is a drag strip about every weekend. However I'll only probably go once just to see what the Ole Gal will do in a 1/4.

Its true our engines and overall package is not design for straight line performance. Anyways any of the two options is normally fun.

However do realize that placing a car, any car under those conditions can lead to damage. Seen to many people show up in their prized cars, or parents and come of the track smoking. Its sad when it happens, and yes have been pissed before. But in hindsight just know there is always a risk.

Last time I was there I saw a Lexus blow a engine, and a Supra MKIV completely wreck. The driver of the Lexus was crusing up a storm blaming the track, instructors etc... The Supra driver was cool about it, cause he understood that s*** happens.

But hey a broken part is just a excuse to upgrade

Edit: LOL just noticed your Cop Magnet abbrei. hehe Cops??? Around here!!! Geez think I went two months when I first moved here without seeing a cop on Route 3. In Fairfax county I couldnt go two miles without seeing a few cops.

hehe course its nice not having to worry to much here, cause my driving record cant use anymore tickets

Haha, I know about the cops thing...and yeah, they're around...but only when you don't want them to be. Whenever I am driving slowly or on the lookout for them, they magically vanish from the face of the Earth. However, when I busted my FIRST AND ONLY red light on Rt. 3 in December, Officer Wooten of the Fredericksburg Police Department seemed to be right there, ready to catch my first mistake of this type. Figures, don't it?

About the raceway experience...I know completely what you mean. A good ways down Rt. 17 is an eighth/mile drag strip at Sumerduct, where a good amount of "southern gentlemen" (notice the sarcasm) go to run their mustangs and other domestic drag cars. I have yet to see an infuriated driver there, as the atmosphere is close to community. About that Supra...what a crime. The 1994-1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo is my dream car, and quite an astounding one at that. However, this site is for MP5's, not Toyotas, so my dreaming stops there.

Anyways, I would greatly appreciate a call whenever you are going to the Summit Track; I love road courses. You can reach me here:

supradude03@aol.com

Anyways, if you have any further advice on the car, please share! You're an absolute joy to talk with. Glad to know there are others out there who really share my love of the MP5 - in Fredericksburg!

And about the driving record problem...yeah I understand completely where you're comin' from on that one.

hehe figured you were a MKIV supra fan by your AOL screen name.

He was there with another Supra also, both highly modify and simply tearing up the track. However in the middle of a sharp turn, his second turbo kicked in, spun the tires and BAM into the infield and a wall.

Hmm didnt know there was a track so close to here, since I've only lived here little over a year now. Still do not know the roads, just Route 3. Course what other road do you need, that thing goes everywhere you need to be.

I'll hit you sometime this week. I'm thinking about organizing a trip to Reston Virginia to a kick ass Go-kart track. These things easily do 30-40mph in a indoor track that is simply amazing. Be nice to get a group together and perhaps head up there. Or if its to far, then just go to the small one in Central Park.

Gotcha, that sounds great. Do they let street cars on the track at Summit Raceway? I would love a chance to try out the MP5...but maybe the risk is too great. Who knows? About the go-karting trip...great idea. We could get a bunch of MP5 owners together, and go out and tear up some tracks! Hell yeah, being young is great.

Speaking of which, how old are ya? Justcurious....I'm 18, and lovin' it.

C ya later,

Chandler

23.

And yes they allow anything on the track. During the Hyper-R fest there was Countachs, Mustangs, Supras, Minivans, Hondas. You name it they were there just playing around on the track.

About that trip to Reston...sounds like fun. 30-40 mph indoor track? That's insane, but inviting. Just email when you're planning a trip...and I am really interested in heading to Summit Point some time soon, preferably when the weather clears.
