intake plumbing

Is there anything special that goes into intake plumbing or is it just mandrel bends in a pipe? Do intake companies like look at the aerodynamics inside the pipe or something to make sure the air is flowing in the most efficient manner?

I think I remember hearing that "tornado" intakes or something did this but what about normal CAIs?

Chris,
Not sure if companies actually flow test their intakes or not, but that Tornado thingie is junk...$65 for a tin can that fits into your current intake (be it stock or aftermarket intake)...it looks like a stationary fan, and supposedly swirls the air (hey isn't that what our turbo does???)...not benefical at all, will probably decrease any power instead of increase.

A completely mandrel bent pipe (no welds) will likely provide the best flow...crush bent pipe will probably be no better than the stock intake piping...welding would be the next best thing to mandrel bent. I'm going to look into buying some mandrel bent u-bends and welding up an intake (or have a friend weld it).

What is your thought process here(scratch)
