Installed radar dectors

I was wondering if any of you have a custom installed radar dector system...like the K40 or BEL etc...

You know the kind where the sensor mounts in the grill and the head unit can be placed anywhere. I find myself driving a little faster these days with the new car and would like to invest in a new detector, but don't want one that hangs off the windshield.

Recommendations, tips, etc...are all welcome.

Thanks

go to JC Whitney... they have a few REALLY good ones for under 400... and they have all the features that the one linux posted boasts.. including radar AND laser detection, a user interface/display that tells you WHAT DIRECTION the laser/radar is coming from, you can setup the radius for city or highway, some are detector-detector proof, and there were a plethora of other amazing features that made me go wow

Thanks dude for this insightful post!

The Escort SR1 are MArket down to $400 these days. I'd get that one. I believe it can be bused with Escorts Laser blocker also.

cobra

I got a cobra detector just because my friend offered to buy it for me after my first ticket. it really didnt do all that much good because i got a second ticket.. (whoops)

i didnt like the gay coil power wire going over my dash so i got a long cable and end and wired it behind my dash and directly to the acc. with a fuse and everything.. much cleaner install..

im still saving up for a jammer that i can install in the bumpers.. but thats after everything else (tint, audio/video system).. for now i'll just drive the speed limit...

this is the one i have:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.a..._name=CTLG_002_001_019_007&product_id=22-1691

its a radio shack model (their best) that i got on sale for 150 a year ago in december. it talks, has a compass and matches cars interior with the silver/black accents. it is VERY sensitive (i find that its a good thing). mine would be going off and my friend's cobra detector in the car right next to mine would not pick up anything

I recommend that you go with the Escort SOLO. I have the Escort Passport 8500, and the SOLO is just the cordless version of that one. Very sensitive!! Save my ass on many an occasion!!

Actualy the Solo has less features then the 8500 and 7500.
8500 has it and solo doesnt:
Re-Programmable DSP
Shift Link
Smart Cord (of course)
Spec display
Voltage Meter
5 Percent Sensitivity
Auto sensitivity
Expert Meter

What about the valentine???

I thought that was the one to get. Well ...at least I was going to get it...but what do you all think of the valentine. I checked it out at radartest.com, but their test seems a little odd. Atleast they're ratings for performance does. Anyhow what are your opinions on the valentine?

(Let me rephrase) What I mean by the one to get...anything under $500, and does the job. I really can do without the 007 edition of radar detectors

SR1, they are around $400 right now and you can add there laser jammer to it later.

The SR1 is the best until the SR7 and SRX come out.
What ever you get just make sure it can't be ditected by the police. The lowest i'd go would be the Escort 8500. But If you do get pulled over your alot less likely to get the ticket if you don't have 2 suction cup circles on the windshield.
