I find myself, on a day to day basis, looking foward to logging in here and on one other Mazda Forum(**********) to get information concerning my new MS6. It has truely been a learning experience and continues to be so.

I have, from time to time posted what probably is considered newbie questions and for the most part, have been giving answers or suggestions with very little (poke) . Because of this, I wish to open up a discussion on the following:

Realistically, based on numbers I have seen posted here an elsewhere and because I DO NOT intend on AUTOX'ing or Racing (drag strip) but only wish to squeeze out this cars true performance potential as a daily driver. What can I expect to see at the end of this road? My Modding wish list is as follows:

1) CAI (installed) +10hp?
2) Complete w/highflow cats exhaust system, no headers (CP-E most likely, when they create the dual version) +20hp?
3) ETS TMIC (most likely) +15hp?
4) Cobb or XeDE tuner, with a middle of the road tuning map (engine longevity) +30hp?

That comes to an additional 75HP, I am assuming a base HP for my car (again based on numbers I have seen on there forums) of 227hp (-20% off Mazda's claimed 274HP from the crankshaft.
So 227+75= 302HP realistic or not? Safely or not?

All this only after I have run out the original factory warranty 50k miles.

Thanks again for your input....

could you explain me number 4? Do you mean the Xede EMS?

i dont think the intake gives you that much gain on this car.

well unfortanetly I don't think you can just add up the numbers like that and add them all to the peak. Each part is going to peak at different points. Each part will give you gains, but not all peak at the same place, the nice thing is though each part will help all over the rpm range.

Remember a really high HP number does not a fast car make!!!

It's all about what RPM range the power comes in at and how long it lasts. A car with 250hp can be faster than a car with 300hp. I know you are looking for the complete driving experience and not just 1/4 miles times but, 1/4 mile on the track is a the same as a 1/4 mile on the road.

Freekwonder is right you can't just add up all the numbers it doesn't work that way. Even if all the mods put the power in the same range at the same time you still would not see the same benefit as adding them all up. The numbers that you quoted are compared to stock. Once you add an intake for example a complete exhaust might give you more or less power than the quoted amount vs. stock, but it will probably be less.

For what you seem to be looking for the list you have should be fine. I just have a CAI and I ran 13.86. With a complete exhaust and a tune/EMS you should be able to crack the 13.5 barrier. The one thing that will also help will be light weight wheels. Wheels that are 3-5 lb lighter can be worth 15-25whp. The stock wheels weight approx. 23-25 lbs but you should be able to get aftermarket wheels that are 17-18lbs.

Whatever you decide good luck and keep us posted.

Yes Karma, XeDe EMS..I was just going by what I have seen on thee boards, 10hp seemed about to be the avg.

Freek & Jdub, thats the kind of answer I was looking for. I was unsure how all this worked together. I kind of thought, from reading a bunch of these posts about all the different things we could add to our car, that everyone seems to post slightly different gains and I did'nt completely understand why.
Also, it is the overall driving experience that I was looking for.
I just wanted to do the normal add-ons that everyone seems to choose without going too far into completely changing the nature of this car.
The wheel weights were something I had seen referred to here also, I'll have to check on the weight of the Motegi DP6's I have installed. Was unaware of the stock wheel weights, thanks for that info Jdub.
This helps greatly, at least I now know what not to do.:)
