Wassup guys! I know that I have not been on the boards in a while and I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag. My engine went BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You read that right, I blew my engine. My car has been down about a month now and my new (used) engine came in today. The reason that I did not post this earlier was because for one I felt like s***, and for two I felt like s***, and for three I felt like s***! This is a big set back. The motor costed $1200. :( That money was supose to go to my clutch/flywheel and fuel managment. But now it went to replace my motor and now I'm set back several months on my build up.

I can't take my car to the 1/4 mile and I have to baby the car because my clutch is about gone. The good news is that my motor came in today and I will start the swap tomorrow. I will post exactly what happened that faithful night with pics of my motor and video (yup I have the whole thing on video). I am licking my wounds and will move on shortly! Just for a heads up, I was running 8 lbs of boost at the time of my little mishap. Later!

Damn, sad to hear man. Now that's 2 people who opted to go with the T3/T4 and both blew their motor. Hope you're up and running soon......Do you still need those Teins though hehe

Damn

What happened? Did you overboost, run lean, whats the deal.Sad to hear this man,What popped? The head,a rod,a piston? Give details when you find out.

Nothing new is learned unless people try new things and push the envelope...on the other hand I'm sad to hear what happened PRO 5:'(...I was really excited about your t3/t4 setup.

Very interested to see your post on what happened...:'(

I have known about pro5's mishap for a while.
He was running a t3/t4 with an intercooler and a 12:1 FMU
The details are this.
He was running through the gears at WOT
He was in WOT in 5th gear
He had 4 people in the car
It was a chilly night.

Unfortunatley he had a few factors against him. 5th gear runs obviously put more strain on the motor due to it being a taller gear and giving more resistance (kinda like the the highest speed on a 10speed bike is harder to pedal than the lowest)
He had 4 (600-800 lbs) people in the car, this added more resistance to the motor subsequently increasing the fueling demands for the motor, then to top it off it was a chilly night. Obviously the cold air is denser requiring more fuel thus taxing the fuel demands even more and the t3/t4 did not help things out. I seriously doubt that the t3/t4 was the primary cause of the motor going, it just aggravated the situation. Most likley if he was running only 6 psi this would have never happned.

So to sumarize
5th gear @ WOT + heavy pay load @ WOT + Cold weather + T3/T4 is not a good combo on a standard FMU setup.

We have learned from this but unfortunatley at the expense of Daves motor:(

I hope all goes well Dave.....goodluck

So should one such as myself lay off of 5th gear boost?
Not saying that but, if it was me and I was doing a lot of 5th gear WOT runs I would atleast get an egt gauge to see what a/f I am running under a high load gear like that. A narrow band 02 sensor will not be adequate for that. I like using a narrow band when driving around ect. It will tell you if you are dangerously lean ect, but is not an accurate tuning tool.

Thanks for clearing that up for my Terry!:D I was working on my car today and should have my motor out tomorrow. I will turn down my boost to 6lbs and I should be fine for now until I build up my bottom end and go with a good piggy back or just put up the cash and get a stand alone.;) I am keeping my spirits up and will continue being the guinie pig for you folks and keep you updated with my T3/T4 endeavors!!! Damn I need a clutch!:(

Man that sucks Dave, my turbo is about to kick the bucket, I am probably going with a T3\T4 with a stand alone. But I feel your pain, the first turbo that I put on didn't work, I payed 620.00 for a refabed T-28 then I paid 480.00 for the rebuild. So thats 1100.00 for a turbo that is going out again. So people learn from my mistake also, BUY A NEW TURBO. Mine smokes like you wouldn't believe, due to oil leaking through the seals. The guy that I bought the turbo from is saying that I am running to much oil PSI. But is impossible if I am running the same size oil lines that everyone else is using.

The oil pressure could be a problem. My brand new turbo that I got from Terry started to smoke as soon as I put it on. So there could be too much pressure with a few cars. Maybe it's just a defect in a few cars. Who knows.

Ok the question of the day is how bad was your car smoking Ben. My car would probably cover a building with the smoke it puts out:wtf: I am wondering if that is the case then how could you lower the pressure of the oil so it wouldn't leak through the seals of the turbo?

Mine was smoking pretty bad. It was at it's worst when the A/C was on and when I hit the throttle. There are ways to lower the oil pressure, but you should see what pressure it's running at before you do that. Someone else with a turbo also needs to check their oil pressure to see what the norm is.

So much for the Protege Knock sensor.
Are you guys positive oil pressure is the issue. Non of the BEGI/FM turbo setups have reported this issue and I believe its up to 13 cars now.

I'm not sure, but you never know, and we wont ever know until someone with a turbo checks the oil pressure in the supply line, and then we will have a standard oil pressure. Until then, who knows?

Well it woun't be me. Its just too damn cold out now to screw with anything. I'll have to wait til April.
Damn I need to move!
