Corey (MemphisRacer) and I went out yesterday to put these Videos together. And; needless to say; we had a really great time! We actually shot these with my Olympus C3000ZOOM Digital Camera (ZOOM - go figure!!) We hope everyone likes them. They convey, pretty well, what the 'HSM Axle-back Exhaust' sounds like. Enjoy!!! 2 Black Mica MAZDASPEEDS lightly rumbling through Oakland was sweet on a Lazy Saturday afternoon. :D (rockon)

What is the HSM Axle-Back Exhaust....?

High-Strung Motorsports has now completed its first of many projects to come for the MSP. It is an Axle-back Replacement Pipe for the 2003-2003.5 and up Mazdaspeed Protege!!! This piece replaces the factory racing beat muffler with our BOLT UP axle-back assembly and is also considerably lighter at 6.2lbs (6 times lighter than stock!!!). It is very simple to install and no pipe ships out unless it has been installed, on a MSP in the shop to check for alignment and position. It sounds mean as hell and looks excellent! I selected a rolled, slash cut tip that looks VERY aggressive because let's face it, if it sounds the part, it's gotta look the part! It is a one piece assembly and can be installed in under 30 minutes using only a wrench to uninstall the factory muffler and to install our axle back assembly. The cost is $100.00+shipping. E-mail me with your address for shipping details or if you have any other questions at MemphisRacer@yahoo.com.

EDIT:
Payment for this part can be made with PayPal (quickest and easiest), cashier's check, or money order and orders will ship within 7-10 business days (due to the volume of sales.) If paying with Cashier's checks and money orders, please e-mail me for instructions. Thank you very much to everybody that has purchased one or is considering the purchase of one of these awsome axle-backs and we are all anxiosly awaiting your feedback!!!!!

Those vids were pretty badass. I like the sound of the exhaust. Does the exhaust increase performance at all? or is it just for sound? Also does it effect emmisions at all? I feel like getting me one of those! :p

Glad you like it! Perhaps some decrease in backpressure (not sure). Emissions should not be affected at all, since the Cats aren't touched. Just a fantastic sound!

Those turned out great!!!

BakaFoo- The axle-back system reduces backpressure slightly and it in no way affects emmisions. This is a mod that you can install in about 15 minutes!!! It's simple and if you ever decide to re-install your stock system (I doubt you will once you hear it!), it is just as easy and fast to do. E-mail me at MemphisRacer@yahoo.com if you have any more questions and hopefully we can do business with you soon!

Giddy Up!!!

It's not too difficult to make something like this happen when your working with someone that also shares the MAZDASPEED Passion!

I tried running around today with the cat-back simply removed. It sounds pretty good, a lot like the SRT-4 without the popping during deceleration, but the dominant sound under acceleration was the TURBO!!! The hiss at the exhaust end from the turbine was louder than everything else...

I wouldn't want that setup for long drives, the drone would be very tiring, but ti would be fine for a locally driven car.

Word to the wise, though: DON'T just remove the muffler and leave it at that: the way that the pipe turns up right at the flange means that the exhaust is driven straight up into the body of the car. I kept a careful eye on that area for the half mile or so I had my exhaust off, but it would have a BAD effect on the underbody over time....

Useless for hearing the sound of the exhaust. Try recording using a real microphone and encode with a proper audio codec.

At Highway speeds....

this system is pleasant. It lets you know it's there, but not over powering. Everyone has in their own mind, how loud they would like their car to be. The MAZDASPEED with the HSM Axle-Back Exhaust, in my opinion, is just right.

Dude! I drove my car like that around the block before installing the hsm axle-back system and the two sounds are completely different. When the midpipe is just unbolted, all sound is directed upwards to the interior of the car. The result of that isnt just a very loud exhaust note inside, but also, you can cause alot of stress on the rest of the exhaust system by just letting it hang there. With our bolt on system, the interior resonance is minimal. The most you hear out of the system is a deep, mellow tone around 2000-2300 and from there on you hear a fierce, deep growl out of the exhaust when the turbo spools and from there to redline on the outside it sounds like an F16 taking off from an aircraft carrier and on the inside it is still very little interior resonance.

Man

You guys notice the dark black puff of smoke from the tailpipe as he shifts from 1st to 2cnd in the 3rd video? Man that is some rich stuff there.
Ok the outtie at the end was cool. Almost has a certain Three Stooge-esque quality to it. You've got Larry and curly all you need is a Moe. Jecky you're a perfect Moe.

I can't argue about the sound directing up into the body, but I can refute the stress comment. Zip ties are a wonderful thing ;) I had that baby strapped down but good!!!

I agree with Rowan: The vids posted don't do the system any justice at all. Can you guys set it up with a better mike? I don't theink we really need vids to make a decision, but better sound would be VERY valuable...

Man, the 3rd video scared me.
if i was driving a long and a MS punched it like that, with a bunch of black smoke, chirp into 2nd, i would be in shock.
that car really moves!! it looks really fast...damn.
You guys drive like there's no tommorrow....
well done...

exhuast note is slightly on the raspy side. To each their own...but it's not my cup of tea. I was expecting a nice deep growl...something similar to BMW's hamman exhuast.
