Hood struts

:
Cx5
Anybody find a set for a 2017 yet? Can't stand the annoying prop rod. Thanks in advance!

Annoying prop rod? But the rod never fails...?

I have never had a car with hood struts on the +35 I have owned...

What I always find annoying is those cars with hood struts that fail, or are too weak to be used in the wind... now you have to use a 2x4 or find a broomstick, that is more annoying to me. I imagine it might be helpful to have hood struts on the cars that need the hood up more often...

But have you ever owned anything more upmarket than a Mazda? My guess is no!

You are correct, never had any Lambos, or Ferrari's here. Just Mazda, Ford, Acura, Honda, Opel, VW, Nissan...

But I have worked on cars with hood struts on them, and have also been hit on the head and trapped under the hood from failing hood struts.

I would never bother to put them on my CX-5, but the ones on my Z-4 (with aluminum hood) seem to work just fine.

Miss the hood struts on my VW CC. Gave it a premium feel.

Also, you know how Mazda is about weight savings...I wonder what the weight difference is between 2 hood struts vs 1 prop rod?

I should be able to just wave my foot under the front bumper and the hood should pop open and lift up to the upright position...(lol2)

Most kits out there could be made to work and can be had fairly inexpensive. The trick is finding the right shock pressure so it doesn't fall nor shoot up. I've installed kits on a handful of different cars with little to no modification but not on a CX5.

The struts on my 16 year old BMW never needed replacing. So maybe I got lucky. ...

I prefer the struts on my cars and was just looking for an option. I have never had a failure on any of my cars, but they can happen. I have a few messages out to some suppliers that have them for the 2016 models to see what they can do. Will update when I hear back

hood struts are awesome until they fail. (brings back bad memories of my old Pontiac Fiero)
I know for the RX8 they were never officially an option for the car but Mazda UK sold a set that I ended up installing. I wonder if we'll see something similar with the CX.
I have them on my X3 and in the rare occasion I have the hood propped open, they're nice to have.

I have some MIT hood struts from PRC that I ordered like 5 years ago when I had my 2013 2.p0op.They've been removed and reinstalled a few times for various reasons over the time. They still work just fine in my 2015. In fact the rear hatch struts on my cx5 have worn out more than the hood has and I'm in my engine bay all the time

I couldn't find them on ali express, but I'm pretty sure these are from the same company as the ones I have. Mine have a slightly different hood bracket (this one actually is a better design), but the stickers, machine details etc are exact the same. Also they are from RC not PRC (for those who care, i don't). These are a little less too.

I have been talking to redline tuning that does struts for other vehicles. They are local to me. I have sent pics of the under hood area and have offered to take my car to them to mock up a set. Awaiting a response...... I contacted other suppliers and was told the sets for earlier years won't fit a 2017.
