cheers guys!

i recently installed a DDM tuning 4.5k and i've run into some issues. my adventure started when the kit first came with one cracked bulb and one with seriously exposed wires at the bottom...two weeks go by they sent me replacements...whiiiiiiiiich were dirty (and i mean it looked like a toddler had it with him during dinner kind of dirty)....so another 2 weeks go i got 2 more replacements. finally after over a month i got to install. the install was a breeze(so i thought? lol). first, i'm having problems with the driver side not firing up upon turning on the lights sometimes. it doesnt always happen, only somestimes, butwhen i turn the light off and back on again it fires up fine. is this a common issue with these kits? or could it be the ballast/bulb? another noob question i have is: when inserting the bulb into the housing, does the rod attachment thingy under the bulbs glass piece - rod up or down when insterting into the housing? i installed the kit rod facing down, on both sides, securely, but it seems that my projector line of sight seems distorted (the driver side seems brighter, and the passanger side seems to cut off with a funny curve far right) - ill upload pics as soon as i get home when it gets dark.

any advice would be greatly appreciated, getting ready to pull the kit and throw it off a bridge with frustration(freak)

thanks, mitch(headbang)

You might have a bad ground on that side, but the more likely issue is that the kit might not be getting enough voltage to start up at the same time as the engine is cranking. Some of us are having similar issues with a high quality Morimoto kit. See end of this thread:

Try turning on your lights manually onece your engine is started for a while to see what it does (don't set them on AUTO).

As for the ground return wire that runs on the side of the bulb, if these are true H11 rebased bulbs (one tab bigger than the others) there is only one direction it can insert securely, so you are probably OK... It might just be a botched rebasing of cheap bulbs. The light pattern on the more expensive Morimoto kit is almost perfect, with return wires also facing down (again, see review linked above).

I have this same cheap DDM kit. I have no issues with the lights not turning on - they are fine from that perspective. I would guess that's the ballast that's going, but you need to switch the bulbs left-right and see if the issue follows the bulbs or stays with the ballast.

As for the bulbs themselves, though... As vroom said, they only go in one way round. However for mine, anyway, they are not particularly tight in the sockets and can wiggle out of place (which ruins the beam pattern). I've been meaning to add another rubber washer (from and old set of bulbs) to these to snug them up. But it's too damn cold to get out there and struggle with getting the bulbs in and out again. :(

The rubber o ring, that comes with them, is really soft. Swap them out, from the original bulbs.
I have the VVME kit with big ballasts and everything is fine, with the sharpness of the cut off.
Sometimes, on mine too the passengers side won't turn on, same as for you. I will have to check my ground, but I don't believe that is the issue with mine.

thanks for the advice! i just ordered a battery harness, gonna see if thats the issue first. i actually did take the sylvania rubber gasket and swapped it with the crap that came along with the kit. gonna post pics of my weird cutoff as soon as i can.

this is the issue im having with my pass side. its clearly less bright and the reflection has odd curves. the bulb is in perfectly snug FML
