i have been out of car audio so long i might as well be a newbie. i am bored witht he stock system in the 5 so i am thinking i will invest some money in a new system. my idea is to run a single sub with upgraded speakers in all four doors. one question though. would it be easier to run an infinity bass link and a two channel amp powering the front doors with a new head unit powering the back. or to run a five channed or four channel amp with a single ten in the back? i think the infinity bass link is cool and it would save me some money, but i want to upgrade all four door speakers as well. any help would be great. also, what is a good head unit with decent power. i hate all those bells and whistles. i love alpines and that is all i have ever had.

That's what I did and I'm stoked.
Alpine 7897
Focal comps in the front doors
stock in the rears(I always have my seats down, so they're muffled anyway)
Basslink in the hatch

Sounds great and relatively cheap.

i would probably run a 4 channel...2 channels to the front and bridge the rear channels for the sub...run the rear speakers off the deck

and since you hate all the bells and whistles....why not just stick with the stock headunit....use an Alpine V-Power series 4 channel amp (MRP-F200) which is about $200 and it accepts Speaker Level Inputs.....replace all the door speakers....power the fronts off of two of the channels (40 watts RMS) ...and bridge the other two to power the sub(100 Watts RMS)...

OR for only $50 more....you can get the Alpine V-Power MRP-F320 which is a 5 channel amp and you get the 40 watts/channel RMS to all your door speakers PLUS an additional 125 watts RMS to the sub.

put a nice JL Audio 10" Powerwedge in the back (CS110R-W0) and you will be all set to rock your world...
