Have you noticed this on your Mazdaspeed?

The inner rear fender linings are covered with a felt looking fabric. Strange

look at the bottom of your engine bay, the entire BOTTOM of it has the same lining to keep air from adding some uplift ( i guess ) noticed it when i was putting in the intake

it is for noise. To keep the noise of rocks down. If you ever owned or driven a MSP with low profiles on and driven over sand or rocks, or any protege really, you'll know why.
