hey guys, im not new to this forum cu zi presently have a protege 5, but come tuesday ill probubly have the mazdaspeed 6.

is there anything i should know about the car before hand? are there any problems?

i test drove it and that car goes crazy fast, but i noticed the clutch was a bit "clicky"

any ways if you guys can help me out, please let me know what im going to come to face with wen i get it.

Thanks :

SNOOKY!

CONGRATS.

There is a ECU flash, the car will probably have it. Use 93 octane if you can.

As for clutch, it's horrible at first, but get a few thousand miles on it and for some reason it settles out.

93 octane, whats that. like supreme gas? i usually use regular on my cars, since its a lease i dont think ill have too many problems right?

thanks man!

you need supreme/premium/whatever you want to call it that has an octane rating of at least 91, preferably 93, or it's not going to feel fast any more. it might not even move any more if you keep doing it

are you serious? that sux man, watever its just like 3 cents differnt no?

yea it's only a couple dollars per tank, not much difference in the long run. it's the price you pay for performance

this may sound like a stupid Q but i relly no nothing about turbos, but my buddy has a blow off valve on his srt4. I like the sound it gives off, plus he told me it would add some HP,

first Q is, is there a blow off that is made for the MS6 or are they universal?

second Q is, does it really do anythings for performance?

thanksz guyz

they are universal. sometimes there are kits that make them easier to put in and i think there are some for the ms6, but any bov will work

it doesn't do anything for performance unless your existing bov is leaking. its function is to let air out after the throttle plate is closed to save the turbo. when your throttle plate is closed, you're not making very much power. but bovs are only rated to certain boost levels, so if you start pushing 30psi on your stock bov, it will start to leak air when you need that air, which is the reason to replace your bov

So then ur telling me the MS6 already has a BOV?

an dit does nothing to the actual HP but saves the turbo life?

thanks man

any new turbo car and any one made after probably the mid 80s will have either a bov or bypass valve, they both serve the same purpose and are pretty much the same thing. the reason they exist is to prevent compressor surge, nothing to do with power at all unless, like i mentioned before, your existing one is leaking, which does happen in stock form on some cars, not sure about the ms6 though.

the way the turbo works is it pushes a ton of air through tubes. your throttle plate, when open (you're stepping on the gas), just lets all of this air by into your engine. when your throttle plate closes, the air that was being forced into your engine is still coming but now has nowhere to go. the bov gives that air somewhere to go so that your turbo, which is still pumping, doesn't have to pump against the air built up in the tube

thanks for the quik turbo lesson, now i know what the turbo does.. thanks again

Besides the ECU flash, what other problems does the MS6 have? how is it on gas? Have any of you drivin it in the winter, how does it handle?
and is there any way of installing an after market head unit?

thanks again!

don't bother replacing head unit. Get an auxmod or a audiolink.....google it, and that'll add mp3 playability, then add a sub and just splice it off of the bose sub in the trunk...done

Gas, well, I'm in Canada, but there is a gas thread. Search is your friend....my friend

3cents more... usually its like 30... .1 for every octane jump... good luck with the car and deffinatly run the highest octane you can.

oh totally didn't even see he was from canada... do'h...

and props on the quick and dirty explanation of the BOV... glad i didn't have to type it out!!

Quick Canadian Gas Pricing system:

87 Octane - Regular - Baseline Approx. $0.90/liter now.
89 Octane - Plus - +3 cents more per liter
91 Octane - Super - + 6 cents more per liter
94 Octane - Available at some Petro Canada Location and not in all major CDN cities - +9 (or more) cents more per liter
