Gas Tank Overflow

I have a '02 P5 and car keeps overflowing and dumping gas while filling up the tank. The problem is that the tank isn't full. It usually happens when I'm around 3-5 gallons into it. Starting from the needle on E. It just all the sudden stops and the fuel burps out the filler like its full. I shake the car and it goes down and if I wait a minute or two I just start again and fill it up (another $10 bucks or so of gas @ $1.40/gal).

Is this something I should have my dealer look at or has anyone heard of Mazda being proactive (sarcasm) and having a recall or fix already in place? Thanks!

This has actually happened to me twice with the MSP. I have no idea why, but yeah, fuel will go gushing out while filling up. How weird...

Cause you are all F-in lazy in there!!! :p j/k

Strange yes, never happen before and I just fill fast from the get go. You wait to long and someone waiting will probably ram your car.

hahhahhaaha yea man..Jersey rules! WE get treated like kings!

It's a trade off really ... We have to dodge potholes the size of Rhode Island, but we don't have to pump our gas. Personally, I'd rather pump, though. :( ::coughs:: Sorry for the threadjack. (bowdown)

Pfft I'm going to take a month off, go live there, work at a gas station and piss in every single one of your gas tanks. (piss) :)

The Gas thing has happenned to me a few times. I did that same thing - bounce the rear end of the car a few times, and fill it slowly.

Most gas attendants in NJ don't seem to care if you pump your own gas after the pump shuts off.
