Fs swap

I am going to be swapping an FS from a base protege and I was wondering if I have to swap out anything else other than the Main bearing support plate?

The stock FS will not have the proper clamps on the vacuum hoses, that might be it ha.

coolant and oil lines for the turbo. Also swap the oil cooler located under the oil filter. If you want to keep your plastic engine cover you will need to swap the valve cover over too.

The MSP FS-DET has holes tapped in the crank cradle (ie windage tray, girdle, etc...lots of different names for it) for the turbo's oil lines...you can get around that by tapping the oil pan, as some have done, or running a sandwich plate designed for that (feed and return valves)...but unless your cradle is destroyed, just swap it to the new engine...its easy when both engines are out of the car...impossible with the gear box attached, though...

you don't 'have' to run the stock MSP oil cooler...but an oil cooler of some sort is definitely advisable...Some remote filter setups will include a small air cooler, and can be a little cleaner than running the water cooled MSP oil cooler...its more a matter of the condition of your existing msp stuff...

was just clarifying some of the differences...since your coming from an msp to begin with, you should have everything you need unless the entire engine evaporated...

If by crank cradle you mean the support plate then mine is still good. On on the vacuum hoses what if I use the intake manifold from the FSDE-T?

^ Yes. Mazda calls it the main bearing support plate. You guys are talking about the same thing. The MSP intake manifold is no different than any other 2.0 Protege.

^^yeah exactly...there are more names for that plate between the main block and oil pan than i could list haha...if the MSP plate is in good condition, just swap it over...it avoids having to tap or mess around with non factory oil line locations...

also...the MSP IM is no different than any 'normal' US protege...the MP3 is the only US protge that has a different IM (no VTCS)...and the JDM IM's use a different VICS system layout...but not really relevant...

so as long as your 'new' FS-DE was not from a MP3, and was not some crazy Japanese import engine...the IM is the same...even if it is from an MP3, you got rid of VTCS, which you might as well do anyway if the engine isn't in the car...

I figured I'd swap the intake manifold since it already has the vacuum lines routed to the WGA, BOV, and turbo

Good call. I always forget to list the MP3 as having a different IM than all the other USDM cars. The Jspec ones are different too.

Yeah I knew that the J spec had a different IM and compression ratio, didn't know about the MP3, I got it from a US spec 02 protege so I should be okay
