Front passenger airbag off display

If there is no pax in front pax seat, should the illuminated display that says something like Front airbag off (above the glovebox) be illuminated?

Have a 2008 M5, sat in garage for about 4.5 months. Honestly cant remember whether it used to be on or off. But now that I have started driving it as primary vehicle, have noticed that sometimes the sign will illuminate for a few seconds, then turn off again. Haven't noticed any pattern about if at beginning of journey, particular speed, temp, ...

Am wondering if sitting idle for all those months has affected the wiring or something.

Thanks.

The Airbag OFF light will be illuminated when the seat weight sensor dectects greater than 0lbs and less than 66 lbs in the seat.

If the weight sensor detects 0 lbs, the Airbag OFF light will NOT be illuminated.

If the seatbelt is buckled with 0lbs in the seat, the Airbag OFF light will be illuminated.

If you have something in the front seat, such as a laptop, groceries, etc. it could cause the light to illuminate periodically.
