foglight question

I was driving in front of a P5 today and noticed in my mirror that the foglights were the same color as the headlights. I thought foglights were supposed to be yellow since yellow light penetrates through fog better. So are these just auxillary lights and not real fog lights?
I also notice people drive with them on all the time, I thought this was illegal.

i'm not sure about canadian laws so i can't really answer that...

but as for the color...yes, yellow is supposed to cut through fog better but that doesn't mean that nonyellow light won't penetrate...i have driven through some thick fog and yes the lights did help...i drove some with them on and with them off i could tell there was a difference...so yes they do function as fogs

The colour of the light isn't what makes it a fog light, it's the aiming and pattern of the beam. Yellow or white really doesn't change the effectiveness of it. The P5's lights are designed as fog lights.

It's not illegal to drive with them on all the time, although maybe it should be.
