first upgrades (performance or otherwise) for the mighty msp

is your shifter longer? that sounds cool, i see you live in Washington. i drove all the way up to Vancouver to get my msp!

Yes the sedan shifters are longer then the mazdaspeed shifters im not sure how much but i think almost 2 inches. Both of those products you linked i have heard great reviews about. How far from vancouver is grants pass??

idunno what these other people are talking about lol when i got my transmission mount replaced the stock one was all busted up and everytime i shifted my whole engine would rock back and fourth. The inserts are good i have those on my front motor mount but i still feel that the transmission one is the weakest.

I think anyone on here would agree with saving up and getting an ssafc best worthwhile investment for the msp plus since he's stock he doesn't need to tune it or get a wide band just run stock super map

I put my FMIC in for about $250 total including an HKS SSQV BOV. I would consider it one of the more important mods but it isn't difficult at all.

Just save up and get a new exhaust system or atleast a new exhaust manifold. U will need one sooner or later anyways it might even allready be cracked and u dont even know lol. Thats the beuty of owning a msp

Definitely not! Suspension is why I bought this car. All I read about was how wonderful it handled on forums and car reviews. Gotta love Mazda's. I flex that RacingBeat every time I go on a drive. As far as a FMIC goes, I've often thought about enjoying a better inter-cooler (reducing heat soak and allowing more consistent turbo efficiency) but for $250? Where in the world did you find one for that kind of money? Everywhere I've looked has had FMIC's for at least $1000, and SMIC's for $500. Also, I've heard of replacing the intake manifold because of the delayed butterfly valve issues that it has, but what have you heard about the exhaust manifold? And I checked into the SSAFC, but the site I looked at didn't have a place to order one... So I'm still unsure on price...

Ssafc is 400
Ssftc is 700 I'd recommend this as it lets you adjust timing

Obviously more than 100 but is the best mod for the msp

Check out the eBay FMIC thread. SSFTC only let's you retard timing not advance it so IMO not worth $700.

Ya def disregard the FTC I forgot it only retards timing. Will the stock tune be able to handle an fmic?

TRUST ME....don't even think of messing with your ride untill you have like 4k stashed,I'm NOT hating, but please remember this is not a nissan,or honda or something like that, any power u may think of adding to your ride,no matter how simple you may think it might be will lead you down the road of...zoom zoom BOOM! you've been warned. Good luck with your endeavour

Yes, but you only get a substantial gain with a supporting EMS, even as basic as an SSAFC. Summer time and heat soak will kill what little bit of power is added from the turbo with the side mount, so the front mount does help that a bit.

I don't know why you would need $4,000 set aside... Even if I slung a rod through the side of the block, I could pick up an FS for $500 with low miles...

Wouldnt that be going in circles?...how many engines you gotta blow before you take your time and do it 1 time only?....OK so maybe you're right, with the slurry of parts available right here maybe $2500...

I installed the FMIC and SRI a few months before the AFC and the car ran like stock, possibly even worse hesitation. It did run noticeably better though.
