First Mazdaspeed 6, YaY or NaY?

Hey guys,
I am looking to buy my first mazdaspeed 6. I have been driving around an '04 Mazda 6 v6 but have to let go of the car as it has around 133K miles..got an '06 speed 6 which has around 46K miles. It's the GT package and the car has had one owner. Now i've heard the speed 6 failing on many occasions, be it due to over-modding or as a daily driver. I would prefer sticking with mazda as the community is great and also because the car is great too. I do plan on putting aftermarket mods on the car but to what extent should I go to keep the car reliable? Looking to get some serious help from all you guys. Thanks.

So far even with everything stock on my car. I absolutely love it. I have owned it less then a month. I just installed a Forge BPV today and i'm getting a CPE cold air tomorrow. I should be ordering a Boost gauge within a day or so, and a Cobb TIP also. I have heard mixed reviews about The Boost tubes so i am unsure of them. I'm not going to go crazy with mine. I want to do all the simple bolt on things. I'm sure i'll come back to this post later and go yeah right. I did the same thing with my mustang.

I plan on doing simple mods at first as well...everything that u mentioned and lower the car. Someone told me to change the downpipe for massive gains, does that reduce reliability, I still have a lot to learn about the speed.

Seems like alot of people who have downpipes smoke....

if you want power get the mods you listed(BPV,Intake,TIP) and a cobb AP.

catless downpipes can be known as the biggest single gain from a mod... with that does come trouble from what I've heard.

Pick up an sri, tip and bpv to start. these bolt ons are cheap, quick and easy to reverse if needed.

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating. Participating on an internet forum for car enthusiasts magnafies perceived problems with a particular car. The MS6 is a reliable car, in spite of those perceptions to the contrary.

I think they are reliable. I havent had any trouble with mine at 62,000 miles so far. I wouldnt hesistate to buy another one.

Ahhh I see. Yeah TM6 is a great forum for my local club... Unfortunetly, I'm like the only user with a speed6 that actually posts there, so I can't get much help from or get group buys on parts, lol. IMO, mazdas 24/7 is the best place for MS6's, I can post threads and get responses in a few hours no problem. It's very active for the mazdaspeed 6 community, also because the majority of the people are from the states unlike us canadians, lol.

If you end up getting the car and you have any questions feel free to ask me and if you need help installing things I can give you a hand too. My build on that forum is decent I guess, not too much done but small cheap mods here and there makes the car look a lot better.

But your location says GTA... the cars youre looking at are in miles????

Thanks mglavina..the cars I am looking at is in Km's but to make things easier for our US friends I converted to miles. Yeah TM6 is great but not too many posts on the speed 6. I definitely appreciate you offering to help on the installs. My car is getting sold this tuesday so hopefully grabbing the speed 6 by this thursday. I am thinking a turbo timer, short ram intake, BOV, gauges and lowering springs. I know I won't be comfortable driving a stock car after my heavily modified 6. Any advice guys on which turbo timer/BOV/short ram intake to get for the most gains? Also should I get a TIP along with it?Price is not an issue. Thanks once again everyone.

Turbo timer? IMO stay away... at this at this stage you don't really need to look into that right now. SRI is a great option, easier/cheaper then a CAI and easier to work with if you get a FMIC in the future. Gauges are good too I guess, although a boost gauge is the main one you would need. I like the look of the block8 defrost vent pod gauge, it looks real nice and flush. You could always get the triple gauge set up where the compartment is above the radio. Lowering springs you can look at H&R, the RPM store and a few others but I don't know too much on that... I'm slammed on BC's lol. I definetly recommend you pick up a TIP and swap it the same time you do the SRI.

EDIT: And oh, PM for any other questions and advice. Being in Canada we can get ***** on duty, shipping and taxes and stuff... I know a few places to get parts.
