Got my first kill last night....I don't really like to race around town but this guy had his girlfriend with him and thought he was too cool. I was just out to buy a CD when I'm stopped at a light on a 2 lane residential road (speed limit 45). He pulls up next to me real fast and hits the brakes hard to make sure I notice him. He gave me "the look" and then looked at his girl and it was on. The light turned green and I never saw him again.....his nose stayed at about my rear bumper when he finally let off at about 60mph when I did too (don't want any speeding or racing tix).

Our orange MSP seems to attract these pricks I guess. It was the new model Celica too...and the worst part.....he had purchased the "gold" package so the thing had all the normal Celica and Toyota badges all in gold....it was horrible.

BTW my only mods are the K&N filter....stock rocks!

congrats on the first kill man

Was it an automatic or 5 sp? And are you sure it was only a gt? THe msp should be competing with the gts. I used to smoke gt's in my lil 4 banger mx6, you shoulda ***** him. But atleast you won, and that tough guy grin was probably whiped off his face. His girlfriend musta been laughing. lol.

yeah, it was a GT-S....I forgot there's 2 kinds....I have a habit of just referring to them both as the GT..I'm pretty sure it was a stick because I had all my windows down and I heard him really slip the clutch for a long time when he took off.

My car before the MSP was a Celica GTS, with tthe 6 speed. Nice car. Very comfortable, nice interior layout, and the 6sp is nice too. But the engine is super peaky, power doesn't come on until like 6800, but you could run it out to like 8200-8300rpms (supposedly they 'fixed' that in later celicas, and lowered the fuel cut). I think in a straight line, I would have beaten a stock MSP, but not by much. In the corners, the MSP is definatly king. The celica handles well, "competant" I'd call it, but nothing too special.

Toyota built that car to beat the Integera, and it was better than an Integra, but then the RSX came out, and it was back to square 1. So they redesign the celica, and all they did was make it uglier, and no more power? WTF? The celica really really needed low-end power, although it only weighing 2500lbs helped.

Stock for Stock the MSP will win by at least a full car lengh to 1 1/2 car's best with Both equal or/ experience driver's. But up top i think the GT-S might have the advantage not sure.

I don't know if I believe that. Do you mean quarter mile/0-60 or something similar. I think both cars run the quarter in low 15s, so I don't see how that puts the MSP "a full car length" ahead ... ? All of the GTS' power is at the top-end, so after it gets out of first gear, its all power ... (assuming you can keep it on the second cam)

15's in the 1/4... true. but look at trap time. In the new sport compact, the MSP ran a 15.3 at 90.4mph or something, the RSX ran 15.4 at 93.1. Trap speed rules on the street, it shows where the power is. So you were right to win from a dig, but he woulda caught you eventually, and from a roll, you might have lost, since his power is at the top.

EDIT- yes i compared a RSX, but its just an example... and Celica GT-S are very similar to RSX, with slightly less hp, but also weigh less, and the way their engines make power.

But, your car is turbo, turn up the boost a little, and beat him anytime, anywhere ;) Autometer boost gauge-50 bucks, MBC 20 bucks... 25 hp safely for 70 bucks... priceless..
25 hp on an N/A car.. much more pricey.

Nice Kill.

ps. i have very little seat time at the track, and pulled a 10.49@68.4 in a 2000 celica gt with an injen intake(maybe 1hp gain). If it was a GT, youd be walking away pretty quickly.

Guy you have no idea how much reading this means to me!!!
My husband's co-worker decided to run her mouth about my car. She has a GT-S. The only thing she has on it I think is an exhaust and she was stating to him that she could beat me even with my up-coming mods.
All I got to say is bring it on BEYYOOOOCH!

My buddy is a huge GT-S fanatic, and I use to make fun of him cuz he would show me some of the post on the Celica board, and I would tell him he is full of s***. But I was really impresed when I saw him run a mid 14 with just an intake and the stock muffler taken off. Supposedly this combination added a "true dyno proven 15 wheel horse power" (the GT-S stock muffler is very restrictive, more so than other stock units). And the thing that really convinced me was that he did it on three consistent runs, and four other GT-S's with the same set up were running similar times.
