ERL MF2 or eManage

Hey everyoen I have a chance to exchange my MF2 injector controller for an eManage with some cash also in the trade. My question is shoudl i go with the 2 additional injectors or get the eManage and use the stock injectors and be able to control timing as well. Let me know what you think people.

I know we've discussed eMangage a bunch of times, but is it suitable for a turbo application? Will it control everything we need, as well as the partial throttle problem or whatever the hell it is? :D.

Chris

The partial throttle I'm not sure but it will work on the wot problem as that is the main area I would need it anyways. I'm still debating it as this is still uncharted territory for the Protege conserning the eManage keep the thoughts comin!!!

Well if you're up for being the guinea pig, my vote goes to eManage. Nobody who is going turbo has tried one, and it would be great to see results.

Chris

um I need an Answer on this pronto cause mine is sitting in my trunk. I think I might wait til my front mount and just mod the s*** out of it all at once! :-)

What I have found out is the fuel control works with it but the timing control does not. This is from Terry himself

So we'll STILL need something to retard timing to be safe...
Why can't we go with the Link again?

This blows. Good thing I can't afford turbo right now. I'm going to save and do it right. By the time I get my turbo kit, I don't want to hear "DooMer_MP3's turbo" and "knock" in the same sentence :).

Cost, mostly. Plus you'll have to wire it in so far.

Hey Keith Nice to see you on this thread. I'm staying with the ERL MF2 BTW I know 2 injectors in the charge piping isn't much better than a FMU but I do have fuel trim every 1000 RPM have you ever used this unit? A couple people around here use it and it works great for them seems like I will be the first on a protege though. Any thoughts on it Keith?

I've never used that unit. I'm not a big fan of using just one or two injectors in the charge piping - I'd actually call it worse than an FMU because of the fuel distribution problem. But it's easily programmed. Make sure you run a voltage clamp on the O2 signal to prevent the stock ECU from pulling fuel in closed loop operation. This is true of any fuel system that adds fuel in addition to the stock setup.

The whole "part throttle problem" and "WOT problem" is fiction. Read the writeup on our website, it's a little more complicated.

If someone wants to try wiring in a Link piggyback, it's a good solution that will let you run more boost safely. We can give you help from this end, but it's not going to be a plugin setup.

Whats the estimated time and setup costs?

Thanks for your opinion Keith....personally i like the 2 injector setup better than a FMU just because I don't like pushing that high of fuel pressure. Eventually I'm going to go with a Haltech E11 once they get the bugs worked out and run that with some 700cc injectors and the internals we have spoken about. I have decided to go with Carrillo Rods and JE custom 8.5:1 pistons. This shoudl be a bullet proof setup....well up to about 400 hp where the crank is supposedly good for. Anyways. I have seen alot of guys run the additional 2 injectors with good success even my Uncle in his Miata has a SDS controller with 2 injectors and it made 20 more HP than the FMU he was using so I like them myself :)

I'm not going to give an estimated time to install a Link on a car when I'm not doing the work. It'll take a fair bit of work. Spoolin' can give more details as he's done it. You'd have to choose how many injectors to run - four would be ideal, but that involves plumbing them into the intake manifold...

chdesign, don't hold your breath waiting for Haltech to work out any bugs :)

Keith

The link works however for the price and the pain of retrofitting it to the car its not worth it. A little more cheese and you can get a full fledged system like the haltech ect. Just beware tuning it...there not so easy especially if you have not had much experience with managment systems
