engine swap

I have a 1998 protege with a well running engine and transmission but the body is rough with ruwt in all the usual places. A neighbor has a 2000 protege with a blown engine. Does anyone on here have experience with an engine swap between generations? I don't want my neighbors car unless I can swap engiines so I'm hoping to hear more about this topic from someone on the forum. Thanks.

If it's the same liter engine and everything the swap should work fine. If yours is a 1.8 Ltr and your neighbors is a 1.8 Ltr then it will work but if yours is a 2.0 and your neighbor has a 1.8 Ltr then it wont because the ECU's will be different and youll have to change them out to
